I always hear people say that Stone Sour is radio friendly....and that's the point. You really can't complain considering that the band is really making a different style music than Slipknot INTENTIONALLY. This album really sounds no different than their debut - the style and sound is pretty much the same. You'll have some slow, pop-style songs like "Through The Glass" and then you'll have some faster paced, heavier sounding songs like "30/30-150". If you liked their debut, then you'll like this CD because it's following the same formula as far as sound, style and lyrics. If you've never heard of Stone Sour or haven't listen to them yet, their style is very different from Slipknot. Stone Sour's sound isn't as heavy, aggressive or fast as Slipknot's. Stone Sour is more melodic and definitely more radio friendly than Slipknot, but that doesn't mean they're terrible. It simply means that if you're not a fan of that style of music, you should avoid Stone Sour. Do NOT get this CD expecting a similar sound to Slipknot, because you will find yourself sadly disappointed. I think this is a great CD...and I am a fan of Slipknot. It just really depends on what genres you listen to and what styles of music you enjoy.Read full review
There is a love / hate relationship with many Slipknot fans towards Stone Sour. The problem is that many expect frontman Corey Taylor and Guitarist James Root (of both Slipknot and Stone Sour fame.) to continue the traditions set forth by Slipknot in their original band STONE SOUR. Unfortunately, many realize that Slipknot might eventually fade in oblivion, while Stone Sour has enough diversity to last a long long time. Stone Sour's sophmore effort is no exception to this diversity. The album's first track "3030150" is as hard as anything Slipknot has put out, but melodic enough to please the pop metal fan. The real flair of this album does not come from the sappy ballad "Through Glass" that has been played to death on every major radio station; instead, it is the rumbling middle finger dedication to President George W Bush "Come What(ever) May". It is by far the best track on the entire album and might one day be the band's anthem. Other great track son this album include "Made of Scars" (A look at how life makes us who we are), "Hell and Consequences" (A song dedicated to the Slipknot fans who hate Stone Sour), "Reborn", "Your God", and the piano driven "ZZYXX RD" (which is almost as melodic as Slipknots "VERMILLION"). Even the worst song on the entire Album (In my opinion) "Sillyworld" has a strange way of relating to the times we live in. In ending, if you are a huge Slipknot fan and expect an album filled with speed metal and headbanging thrashers, then this is not the album for you. However, if you are a fan of bands like Motley Crue, Kiss, Korn, Godsmack, and similar artists. Then Stone Sour's Come What(ever) May is definitely worth your time and money. Although I will have to state that I did like the first Stone Cour CD best.Read full review
