This is the third time I used it and it can NOT be used any more. I used it as the puller for rope with much less than 4 tons as you can imagine. Both engaged gear are loosen. Today I went to home depot and it will be easy to return if it has the problem.

Just a few drops of oil on moving parts and good to go. 12 foot cable makes it so practical. Very strong and secure.

This is not a bad or defective unit. I've used it to pull down a few trees on my property that had become hangers on nearby trees after being chain sawed. But it is not the solid unit of highest quality either.......It has worked and worked without a problem so I am satisfied with the product.

To be fair, I'm not overly familiar with using a come along. I thought I'd figure it out with just some basic directions but there were none to be found. It was difficult to get the cable to release and then, once I had it under tension there were times when it would slip. The gears were solid, it was the cable itself slipping on the drum. A chain hoist will not be as convenient as the come along but I don't trust the come along. I know some guys swear by them but its not for me.
