A small group of some 6 manuscript/typescript and clippings along with a typescript slip of paper - all relating to the pre World War II and active Duty World War II service record of a Captain in the United States Navy stationed in San Diego, California, where he recently passed away in his 90s.

The first document appears to be a radio communication or internal communication from a Ship Captain to one Ensign (John)Clague congratulating the latter on successfully avoiding two (enemy) submarines (somewhere in the Pacific theatre of War).

The other documents are contained on the 5 x 7.5 in. pages of a disbound notebook relating to the graduation of the same John Clague of Monterey, California from the California Nautical School in Tiburon (this in 1937). In 1940 a newspaper clipping indicates the young man's attainment of the rank of Ensign on board the U.S.S. Cimarron. And in 1941 the same John Clague is cited in a clipping as a Lieutenant Junior Grade, U.S. Navy coming from the Merchant Marine Service where he was enrolled in "Mines School". Other clippings relate to new rank attainments, etc.

The two most interesting pages are in manuscript, presumably in the hand of the Captain outlining in considerable detail, with dates and ships and locations, the Captain's World War II active duty and battle roster. First convoy to iceland, Battle of Atlantic 11-41, Tokyo raid 4-42, Convoy to El Alamein 12-41, Midway Battle 6-42, Guadalcanal invasion 8-42, Gilbert, Marshall, Mariannas, Palaus Invasions in 44, Phillippines Invasion Leyte Gulf 10-44, "Bombed by (3) Val toether with Hovey Missed floating mine by about two feet which came all the way down the portside of the ship. Swept 4 mines" during Phillippines invasion, and on 19 Jan '45 the Captain writes "Invasion Luzon, Lingayen gulf. Shot down once Val prior to suicide dive into US. Bombed by another at sunset. USS Long, Hovey Palmer sunk, USS Brooks & Sout hard hit by suicides." On 20 Feb. '45 he again writes "Invasion Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands." and finally on 21 April '45 "Overhaul in States. At last 15 months away this time".
