It will scan.
When these first came out I used one at work. They are old technology and are somewhat slow. Software doesn't have controls for different film types. I am lucky to have a version of Photoshop.

Stopped working after completing one test scan
The device enabled me to scan one paper document using Windows 7 and abruptly stopped working. No amount of troubleshooting such as reinstalling software, trying another USB cable, or ordering a new AC adapter helped to revitalize the unit. I ended up donating the scanner to a computer recycling center.

Great for Slides
Wanted this to scan about 500 slides for my aunt - and any others our family has hidden away. It does a great job if not somewhat slowly. You can load up to 4 slides per scan session (each slide is scanned individually within the session). At 300 dpi the four slides took about 8 minutes. I suspect it will be about twice as fast at 150 dpi, but since I intend to print some of them I need a higher resolution. I bought this based on consistently high marks for image quality and I concur with this evaluation.

CanoScan 4400
Like the ease of installation on computer and ability to use in under 10 minutes after unpacking. Can't figure out how to darken light images which is maddening. I'm sure there is a way but haven't found it yet. Bought the scanner due to the price point and quality manufacturer.

Last of an excellent product from Canon
There are certain idiosyncrasies, such as fitting the negs in the holder, that you have to get used to, but it is an excellent product. A shame that Canon appears to have discontinued this model. This one came with the MCD 2.1 updated driver which I think makes it one of the last ones made. It was complete and does work like new. (I had one previously so I knew what to expect.)
