What am I crazy? I'm selling my first Mountain Bike. I bought it in 1984 from a friend, and I assume it was a few years old at that point. This is probably Cannondale's first mountain bike ever. It has a 24" rear wheel and 26" front wheel. I assume that was because they wanted extra low gearing, with only 15 speeds at that time. This is a medium sized bike. There are a few absurd "classic" mountain bikes on ebay right now for $400. Bikes that cost $200 new only 10 years ago. These are not classic, collectables, or even worth that much in new condition. I'm not sure what this bike is worth, but my price of $500 shipped is basically what I have into the bike. Boy, I remember getting this bike and being amazed at how you can ride off asphalt and go into the woods to the bonfire rather than walking. That was pretty much mountain biking back then. Now I own a bike shop, but don't have any room to display stuff like this. I have many other old school classic mountain bikes from $3-500 for sale too. email me at mike @ thebackcountry.net

I paid $150 to have the frame professionally painted with yellow powder coat, and there are a few minor scratches since it's been sitting around for so long. The bike is not completey original either. At the moment I'm looking for the missing parts, but don't hold your breath. It needs the little pull triangles for the power cam brakes, which can still be special ordered today. There is no front derailleur, but it's not a special one or anything. The rear tire is dried up and no good anymore.

No returns on this, sorry. Know what you are buying here. With $100 put into this bike, you'll have a super sturdy - last FOREver, 1st generation classic mountain bike. It is not in good enough condition to be a true collectors showpiece or anything, but try to find another one! I gaurantee you can't. I've owned a bike shop for 20 years, and worked in bike shops for longer. I've never seen another one.
