I have had two problems and I use them about 40+ times a year. 1st problem I had was, my fishing buddies will sometimes lower the downriggers too deep and when the line goes slack it will jump the pulley creating a major problem of having to disassemble the pulley on the boat to restring. Second problem, the ball storage hook will corrode and you can't take it apart or loosen it since electrolysis will occur if used in salt water. They should use a hard plastic or stainless in place of aluminum for the bracket and hanger. For problem #1 what I did was adapt a Scotty pulley to my Cannon and no problems since.
