ARKHAM BOOKS THE BEST PLACE THIS SIDE OF CARCOSA FOR CALL OF CTHULHU EDIFICATION! Chaosium CALL OF CTHULHU Horror Role Playing Game in
the Dreamlands Worlds of H.P. Lovecraft "ESCAPE FROM INNSMOUTH: A Desperate Stand Against The Mythos in Lovecraft Country" (Dang Deep Ones! Dang Marshes!), 1992, #2338, by Kevin Ross, Softcover
Truly a magnificent reference and adventure book by Chaosium for the
Call of Cthulhu Role-Playing Game System (the greatest game of all
time!!). Call of Cthulhu is a roleplaying game based on the works of
H.P. Lovecraft, in which ordinary people are confronted by the
terrifying beings and forces of the Cthulhu Mythos. Players portray
investigators of things unknown and unspeakable, decent men and women of
the 1920s who unexpectedly learn dreadful secrets. Since its inception
in 1981 by Sandy Petersen, it has captured the Intellectuals of the
gaming community, who were looking for more than just hack and slash,
but a true-thinking game. Through the years Chaosium published many
reference and adventure books that are now long since out-of-print and
much in demand. They have become collectors items, as well as sought
after reference materials. Sadly, Chaosium has not been in a position to
reprint many of their earlier titles and so the only way to aquire
these gems from the early days is via the secondary market. We here at
Arkham Books (our curator and proprietor has been playing Cthulhu since
1981) are happy to offer the rare and used tomes of Call of Cthulhu's
past days.ESCAPE FROM INNSMOUTH: The Terrible Truth About A Sea-Haunted Fishing Town in Lovecraft Country, 1992, #2338
An Accursed Community. Innsmouth was once a propserous trading town located on the north coast of Massachusetts. Early in the 19th Century her great sailing ships traveled the world in search of trade and treasure.
A series of mishaps brought the town to the brink of financial ruin, but it was saved when Captain Obed Marsh discovered a secret source of gold among the islands of the South pacific. Prosperity returned to Innsmouth, but only for a short time. The gold held a price that now, nearly a century later, has left the town a decaying hulk, its diseased citizenry mere shambling parodies of what were once people. Shunned by its neighbors, Innsmouth slowly dies. Some whisper that old Obed Marsh made a pact with the Devil. Others know the truth: the town itself has sold its soul, bringing down a curse and forever sealing its doom.
ESCAPE FROM INNSMOUTH is based on H.P. Lovecraft's popular "The Shadow Over Innsmouth," a haunting tale of a nearly forgotten town cursed by a blasphemous pact. ESCAPE FROM INNSMOUTH contains pertinent information about the town and its residents, maps of important locations, and two lengthy scenarios. A 17x22 inch players' map is also included.CONTENTS

Book measures approximately 8.5" x 11", softcover, published in 1992, 160 pages. Fine. This book has never been owned or read, it has a great look and feel to it. Bright, tight, and square. No highlighting or writing inside. Four-fold map is still attached, as are all of the player handouts. Moreover, the Cardstock Chaosium catalog in the back is also attached. The covers and edges have a touch of shelf wear (lite rubbing, minimal corner bumps, and so forth). Very nice collectible copy (most booksellers would call it an AS NEW, or even NEW, but as a collector I want you to be happy, and it does have a few very minor issues). Most notable is a minor crease on the front panel of the upper left hand corner (looks like something that may have been done during the production process). On the rarity scale, this is one of the rarest Cthulhu books. The Innsmouth material has been reprinted two times from this original source. This is from the original early 1990s Lovecraft Country series, which is heavily in demand (especially in this condition). Of all the series, Innsmouth is the most desirable. A quick scan of the various Internet book and auction sites turned up just TWO copies (as of this writing), both of which were in FAIR condition (that is the second lowest condition in bookseller grading--it means a heavily worn, heavily used, lots of flaws, but complete copy). The nicer of the two was priced at $83.56. This does not show up that often, and when it does, nary a one (well, maybe one) turns up in this condition. I have priced it at collector's price, and after it has had a run of a month or so, I'll consider *reasonable* offers. Thank you and Good Luck!
