1958 Miniature Chevrolet Corvette Go-Kart
Gas-powered Yard-Man Co. Single seat Corvette, Model 6032-0 Driveway Car, 2 horsepower engine, complete with operating manual.
This is a 1958 Miniature Corvette promotional go kart manufactured by the Yard-Man Company. Chevrolet Corvette dealers used these karts as promotional advertising for enticing potential customers to come into the showroom to purchase a new 1958 Chevrolet. Chevrolet used this Miniature Corvette go-kart to for national television show advertisements, display in dealership showrooms and major Auto Shows including the Chicago's Auto Show in the above photo. Everything including the wheels, tires, seat-cushion and trunk lid, body, frame, motor etc. are all original. The original Tecumseh Lauson motor is in great condition for its age, motor needs a new starter rope and V-belt but WILL run. All pulley's and engine components are original and we safely zip-tied the v-belt pulley to the steering wheel for safe keeping while in storage. We even saved the original v-belt that broke the last time it was running. This item was owned by the son of a Chevrolet Dealership owner for the majority of it's life. The Chevrolet dealers son wasn't exactly a kid when he received it, so this item was barely used and has very few hours on it. This miniature corvette go-cart spent the majority of it's life on dealership display or in storage. This Miniature Corvette Go Kart's fiberglass body was manufactured by the same body builder as the REAL Corvette. This piece of Corvette history would make a great restoration project!
One of 200 ever produced - Extremely rare survivor - Serial Number 6032-0
These carts were manufactured in 1957 by YARD-MAN in Jackson, Michigan for Chevrolet Dealerships to promote the 1958 Corvette. From what I've been told, if you purchased a 1958 Corvette, you could also purchase one of these for your kids for $146.95 + dealership fee. According to the Corvette Club of America, this is one of 9 known complete* original survivors in both public and private collections. Over the years few survivors have surfaced in either body or chassis at swap meets.
*Please Note, these photos and documents that I've uploaded were obtained from the Chevrolet dealers son, the price of $146.95 was the dealerships cost - corvette dealerships marked these go-karts up to $300. It's not typical that you'll see these elsewhere as there were only a limited amount of Chevrolet dealerships back then that would have received these letters. The Miniature Corvettes all came pre-assembled in their crate, the only thing left to assemble was the windscreen.
This go-kart has been in my family for over 25 years.
After Yardman's final 6032 Corvette production run in 1962, Yardman kept the chassis design, but began selling frame-only go-carts through Sears & Roebuck Co. with no body to make them more affordable. Back in the late 1950's paying $146.95 + dealership fee for a children's toy kart was a luxury. The average out-the-door price of a Miniature Corvette was $250.00 back then. In today's dollars it would cost over $2,000 dollars to purchase a Miniature Corvette with inflation!
Fun Fact: Chevrolet Produced Only 9,168 Full-size Corvettes in 1958 - with an MSRP: $3,591
Only 200 Miniature Corvettes were produced in 1958 - with an MSRP: $295.00
