Each issue, a full issue, illustrated with the latest inventions., detailing famous artillery pieces of the Civil War.,

These issues also report the news and gives out advice for the soldier in the field..how he should take of himself., describing details of cleanliness to prevent death by disease, etc.  News that Major Anderson of Fort Sumter fame has been promoted to Colonel.  Marine and Naval operations., the war on the western waters [ Mississippi River ].

News of the tests of the Armstrong guns at West Point., Seizure of Federal forts by the southern Rebels., one issue showing the interior of Fort Pickens with the large guns...illustration showing the firing of a musket using the "Minnie ball" and the different types used...Map on front page of an issue showing the Seat of War in Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay area...
