I bought a cheaper zapper at a box store a year ago and was disappointed right off, but it worked, so we ran with it. One year later it died, so this time I spent the extra money (this was the best value/price I could find also) and got a good one. I had one like this that was purchased used at an auction for several years and it worked well but eventually died, not sure if it was the same brand or not but appearance wise I'd say it was. This one has been the boss! It's like having a bird feeder every morning underneath this thing! It kills swarms of bugs, we live in the country and by the woods so we have plenty to go around. If you do purchase this unit I will say that you may consider where you put it, it is "very" bright, I mean it's outside one of my windows and lights up the whole room inside, no night lights needed to go through that part of the house in the middle of the night. If it lasts as long as the used one we had a few years ago, I most certainly would recommend it to anyone! Read full review

My wife thought we needed this to kill the annoying flies at the pool. So far the flies are still here and I have not seen a single dead fly on the ground under the Bug Zapper. It doesn't seem to kill anything during the day. It kills lots of tiny insects at night while we are sleeping. In the morning there are dead insects or bugs on the ground but not a single fly. The directions say to install it 25 feet away from everything 6 to 8 feet high. It seems that it needs to be closer to be effective. Why would the flies and pests stop annoying and biting us to fly 25 feet to get Zapped? A fly swatter is a much cheaper alternative.

If you have lots of mosquitos then you need Flowtron BK-80 We don't have any standing water anywhere on our 5 acres after going through proper drainage of gutters and landscaping there was no place for water to stand, however mosquitos always find somewhere to bread that we can't find lol we utilize 3 of these around house, 2 in rear where we spend the majority of time and 1 in front in our driveway to keep mosquitos away from house before they are taken care of. Anyone looking at this option should know with any "bug zapper" that you will hear the zapping and during the evening into morning you hear them almost all night during summer months. I have all 3 set up on dusk to dawn plugs so they are not on during day. The lights do go out every 2 years but the life expectancy of ours have been about 4 years for these as they get a lot of action during the summer months. Last suggestion when new the mosquitos fall off of the electrified fence around light, as they age with extensive use the mosquitos will begin to cling to the fence, so blowing it out with air or washing it off with water (when the power is OFF), if washing it off with water i don't turn it back on for at least 4 hrs to make sure everything is dryed off, but if its raining and blowing it doesn't hurt the unit either. Long review short, these are fantastic and do the job!! I will be buying these as long as flowtron are around as they are the best ones I've found.Read full review

Not the big zap as the old vintage units. Works but I purchased for entertainment as well remembering the biz zap and sizzle of the nasty bugs smoking and frying. The transformer not as powerful either to cut manufacturing cost of government regulations. I'm disappointed .

Easy to set up right out of the box, and works extremely well. Just wish it had more octenol packs that came with it.
