You are looking at a Brazilian Gaucho Knife, made in the early 60s by Abramo Eberle and Company....  Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil (the most southern state and very close to Argentina).  In Portuguese, the noun for knife is "faca" (fem gender).  The adjective which follows is "gaucha" and it also carries the fem gender.  See picture #5.   The synonym "INOX" is not a Brand or Company, but was coined by the French and is short for Acier Inoxydable.  There are several symbols that were frequently used by Sr. Eberle.  The pretzel trumpet is affectionately called the "Marca Corneta" by Brazilians.  He also used the inverted horse shoe and head as features on the belt clip.  The pastoral scenes include a wealth of symbols. Note the Mate' gourd and Straw on the point end of the sheath.  Mate' was the drink made by steeping the dried leaves of Yerba Mate'.  Brazilians generally refer to the sheath's finish as "Banho em Prata" or in our words, bathed in silver.

Sr. Eberle first installed a Forge during the period from 1923 to 1928 and started into blades, knives and swords.  With his passing in 1945, his sons took over the business and continued through 1984.  There were 9 children total.  This means that this knife was produced during the years of management by his sons.  The company was sold in 1984 and can now be found under the Mundial Group.

If you appreciate the art, beauty and history that is Brasil, this piece would make an outstanding letter opener, either used or just displayed.  If I were having or attending a Brazilian wedding, it would certainly be my choice to cut the cake with the finest from Sr. Eberle.   (Yes, this would make a great gift)   The condition can best be described as "exceptional" with no nicks dents or heavy scratches.  If you have questions or comments, please contact me!
