I am an outdoor guy, and this camera is used outdoors. Key attributes: -Tiny, easily fits in a pocket -Waterproof to 10 feet. Don't need to worry about rain and puddles -Ruggedized. Supposedly can take up to a 6foot drop on concrete. The controls work well and are easy to use. The tap control is nice, although I am still getting the hang of it. Picture quality is very good, although the slow time to focus (see below) can lead to some out-of-focus shots when you want to take a picture fast. The downside of this camera is that is takes a bit from power-on to 1st shot, about 3.5 seconds, and a long time to focus, about a second. Since I will be using this camera for ski trips, I will need to prefocus to get good action shots of my sons. In summary, this is a great 2nd camera that I intend to use outdoors or when its tiny size is an advantage. My 1st camera is a Canon Powershot, and it powers up and focuses fast, but is bigger, not waterproof, and not ruggedized.Read full review
PRO: Very easy to use, with semi-Pro capabilities, getting the wife trained to use only took a day and was successful. Much better than last camera which always left her confused. Takes great pics. Accessories can be found cheap. Con: Great for her little hands, but awkward for my big hams. Also a bit slippery, probably like trying to hold a greased pig in the rain. No slip surfaces could have been placed decoratively and functionally on the camera. Would strongly advise a float be attached around water. Battery life a bit short even with 1100mAh batteries.
The Olympus Stylus 1050SW digital camera is a very affordable, compact, and user friendly camera. It offers many options and high mega pixel performance in a waterproof package that fits in your pocket. I especially like the "SCN" settings for help with the proper setting for different types of shots. I had very good success with night shots and landscapes during a recent trip to Hawaii. The rechargeable battery holds a charge for a reasonable amount of time and exposures. The only feature that I wish was on this model would be an optical view finder which helps during both sunny outdoor and dark indoor shots when the viewing screen is difficult to see. I have older model Canon and Sony digital cameras with the optical view finder and I use that feature often.
Loved the size, perfect for a woman's purse, and any man's shirt pocket, haven't tried the waterproof thing yet but it's very easy to use, i just set it to auto and let the camera do her thing (and does a great job). No need for technical stuff.. as a matter of fact haven't read the manual yet, so maybe someday when i want to do something more advanced i will.. video is great too, easy to download to computer, user friendly. Sound isn't that great tho, but it's not that bad either, let's say is a 7 out of 10. But i loved this camera, so sleek and the 10MP is a plus! One thing annoys me, when taking out battery to charge the camera turns on because the ON/OFF button is right where you grab the camera to be able to handle battery, so if you have big fingers.. it can be tricky.. and i don't even have big fingers, go figure! guess it's a matter of time til i get used to it. but yea, loved it!Read full review
Excellent travel camera! Got it one day before I left for a surf trip to Mexico so I didn't have time to read directions. Got an extra battery and 2GB card and I am happy with the massive memory capacity and the shockproof / water resistant / freeze resistant capabilities. Haven't tried the video yet. The only thing I am not happy with is the lousy 3X zoom - I was expecting more zoom capability, which is the main reason for the "Good" rating instead of excellent. Fortunately, with the 10.1 MP, zooming in after the fact can be done keeping the picture property integrity. Great camera to have in your pocket for knocking around. Great gift for a son or daughter.
