Blade Runner has a cult following of it's own that I will not go into here. There are scores of web-pages that cover the phenomena in more detail than I could ever hope to do in this limited venue. Suffice it to say it is high on the list of the top ten Sci/fi films of all time. This 10th Anniversary Edition VHS release is actually a domestic release of the original European release of the film. It is not rated due to the extra, more violent scenes edited in to it. It is overall slightly more violent than the Domestic Theatrical release (out of print and VHS only) or the Director's Cut (VHS out of print, DVD in print). This copy will satisfy those Blade Runner fans who desire to have a copy of Blade Runner with the original voice over "Phil Marlowesque" film noire narration of Harrison Ford that is missing on the DVD release of the Director's cut. Also present in this version is the "Hollywood Ending" with aerial footage from "The Shining" spliced in and a long shot of Deckard and Rachael in a futuristic car on a highway. Not present in this version is the "Unicorn dream" inserted in the Director's Cut, which some think point to the possibility that Deckard is a replicant. For those who thought the voice over of Harrison Ford made the original film, this will satisfy that longing that was unfulfilled by the Director's Cut. That is the primary reason I purchased this version. Being able to find one new in original shrinkwrap was especially exciting. It is unfortunate that this version and the earlier domestic theatrical release are not available in DVD. At one time the rumor was that a box set of all seven versions or at least five of the seven) of Blade Runner would be released. However, it apparently was the dream of the director and not cleared with the studio before the rumor leaked. Subsequently the project was killed. Also, it is rumored that Harrison Ford hated the voiceover the studio had him do for the domestic and European theatrical release and used his influence to halt DVD release of either. Hopefully the studio, the actors, and the director can resolve all differences that is preventing the release of all versions on DVD from happening and release them in the future. A box set would be ideal, but I would also go for individual releases. A bit more expensive, but when you are a collector, price matters little.Read full review
My husband had been looking for this movie since I met him 15 years ago...he couldn't find the non directors cut or one cheap enough. We found it here on eBay, it was the right price and it was not the directors cut. We got it and it was wonderful, no issues with it, it worked great and now we have the movie to add to our collection.
It seems like I had been looking for a copy of Blade Runner voice over by Harrison Ford, for years. I had checked half.com before, and could not find it. It is a great movie, one of my favorites. I have the directors cut, without the voice over, and it is a little slow without it. For Sci-Fi lovers, this is a must have.
It puts you in a time and world that you can relate to. The story has a plot and is will actted. For a SIFI it is one of the best. the picture quilaty is not as good as a dvd but you can see the whole movie.
This is one of the best scifi movies ever made. I like the original release version better than the director's cut because of Harrison Ford's narration and the ending.
