Its not the newest phone, it doesn't have all the features of new phones. I lacks a camera, GPS, wifi and a SD card slot. But it replaced my PDA, it has more features than the T-Mobile pay as you go phone We use only a few minutes a month to call from the airport for a ride and phone our arrival time. Good enough! We bought two. One, the roll switch became difficult to select functions. So I bought a third one. The postman took it home for Xmas leaving me screwed by the "ebay buyer protection plan". So in the new year I bought two more for spares. easy to use, easy to type on, nice large screen. The worst part is dealing with T-Mobile,
I don't like the idea of two-year contracts, free phone or not, so when my trusty old Blackberry 7290 died, it was time to find a replacement. The 8700g arrived looking virtually new, with a brighter screen, more features, and all the software and accessories, in a Blackberry box. Cool. It was a bit of a struggle to get internet email to work (more on that later) and the keyboard is a bit tight for my substantial fingers (but I'm not a texter so I can take my time typing my emails); but otherwise I like it. Good call quality, very business friendly software, syncs with Outlook(tm) - no camera or music player, but I don't care. When I got the phone, I inserted the SIM card from the 7290, and it booted and came up fine. I then wiped it, installed the latest software, transferred all my information and settings via the Blackberry Desktop Manager, and thought I was all set - but internet email wouldn't work. Now I'm a techie, so I dove into this with both feet, and did a lot of digging - some posts said a Blackberry that has been used for Exchange email was registered with that server forever and could never be used again for email - what? So I called T-Mobile tech support and they told me the SAME THING! I was unwilling to accept a verdict like that, because it would mean I couldn't get my work email while away from home - no good. So, after hours of searching, I found a site which recommended using Blackberry's loader.exe application with the /ressettofactory switch - and it worked! Email came up, and now I have everything I need in a great little smartphone - and no contract. I called T-Mobile back and told them how to do it. Sweet. 8.5 of 10.Read full review
I LOVE THIS PHONE. Being that I LOVE ALL blackberry phones.. I indefinatly wanted this one to add to my collection of all.. I've wanted this phone since I see my older cousin with it. It did NOT come with a CD but, I found the download on google. IT CAN NOT BE SUPPORTED for mp3 ringtones if you are USING A PREPAID sim card LIKE MYSELF.. So, I had to VOICE RECORD ALL OF MY RINGTONES.. Which is still ok because it still sounds good nevertheless.. I LOVE THIS PHONE SOOOO MUCH.. Once you update you have to make sure to unplug when it says UNPLUG otherwise the phone will go black and the red light will flash on you.. BUT, If this does happen all you do is plug in the USB like you are going to update again and make sure to keep the cord still and it WILL BACK UP YOUR FILES.. Other than that.. This is my new BUSINESS PHONE.. FOR SURE!Read full review
I have a BlackBerry 8520 but just like all new phones today, they're unreliable and last about a year, then break and then T-mobile wants you to upgrade. The 8520 had everything, but for some reason I wasn't getting any service even when I had all bars, whatever, broken. I had a blackberry 8700c before the 8520 curve and it was a very reliable phone but I lost it. This 8700g is basically the same as the 8700c with a more modern look. I love it, and truly missed this phone! It's pretty old, but I don't care! The QWERTY keyboard is amazing and it's so easy to text. The side track wheel is very responsive and won't break like trackballs or the touch pad. If only it had a camera, I'd use it forever!
I just bought this phone in replacement for some Chinese fake blackberry and I must say this phone went beyond my expectations. It has an extremely good keyboard which is great for fast typing and emails. The keyboard is even better than some of the newer models because the buttons have an adequate amount of space between them to avoid accidently pushing other letters. Another thing I was very impressed with is its reception. I used to have to leave my phone upstairs before entering my basement but with the 8700g, I have now 2 bars of service! I am extremely happy to have found this phone. I'm also a person who drops their phone a lot and the 8700g has already proven its self extremely strong and durable. It won’t scratch or nick nearly as easily as most of the other phones out there. I dropped this thing on asphalt and wow. It barely left a mark! So if you're looking for a phone with an awesome keyboard, extremely sturdy and strong structure and amazing reception, the Rim Blackberry 8700g is the phone to get!Read full review
