I love Big love. It has a very realistic and down to earth plot line. Not only that but it shows both sides of polygamy. The bad side is what they refer to as the "COMPOUND" in the series. That portion is about a Prophet and his many wives children and grand Children. The good side is about a Man (Bill) that has been very successful in life. He owns a store chain and has a great family. When Bill was young he was kicked out of the Compound left in the 'real' society at the age of 14. That is when he stopped practing polygamy and found his way with the Church of Ladder Day Saints (LDS). That is how he met Barb. They had 3 children together. When Barb got sick the "Prophet" sent one of his daughter's to take care of her. That is when Bill found his calling and began to practice polygamy again. This is a great story line. I never get bored. I can watch it over and over again. And everytime I watch it I notice and learn something new about life.Read full review
I love Bill Paxton and I had read a book about polygamy and was fascinated, so I bought Season 1 and LOVED it. Every actor plays his/her part perfectly and believably. I love the actor that plays Bill's partner. He's great! This second season was a little crazy. So much happens with the fundamentalists at "the compound" and with Bill's kids that at times it is a bit too much. I enjoyed all of it except the storyline that had Bill dating a waitress. His world is practically crumbling around him and he finds time to eat pie and flirt with a waitress???? I found it irritating and silly. I wanted to smack him! One of the things that makes this show so enjoyable is that Bill and the wives are interseting, likeable people...just living a different lifestyle. This storyline (along with some of Bill's business dealings) made Bill not so likeable this season. Fortunately there is plenty of other great stuff happening to keep your interest.Read full review
The actors/actress did a GREAT JOB! I know it had to take some real effort to pull a series like this off. Amazing --what can you say--very hard to imagine--THREE WIVES--almost unbelievable. I did enjoy watching this but it is definatly not for children. This series has LOTS of bed hopping(and what exactly goes on in the bedroom) and quite a bit of skin--there is not much if anything left to the imagination. My husband actually thought it was a hight class porn video when he would pass by when I was watching it on the tv. This is one of those programs-that you really dont like but interests you and can hardly believe--and has you completly HOOKED. Once you watch the first episode--dont be suprised if you can't step away from the tv.
This is such a great Series. Characters are fabulously written and ACTED. Best CAST since Sopranos. Interesting subject matter. Very accurate. Nice to put the LDS church out there. HBO is way late with SEASON 3 and that really stinks. They should put out Season 3 this fall and Season 4 in the Spring. This show is that good. You just want more. I thankfully found it on EBAY. I bought Season 1 as well. You can watch it again and again. It never gets boring.
When I first heard about this show, I was like yeah no thanks. But then one night I was bored so I flipped it on and wow. I've become quickly obsessed. HBO needs to be more consistent with this show and putting it out on the air. The dynamic of this family is endearing and repulsive. It's fun to see how they get knocked down and they pick themselves up and dust off and keep prospering. What wrench will get thrown in to the works next?
