Mini Griptilian:

GP Knives Mini-Griptilian CPM-M4 Limited

I bought this originally thinking of using it as a carry, but it is just too nice to carry, so I decided I should go ahead and let someone else enjoy it as I am not really a collector.

It is one incredibly sweet knife.

It's a beautiful knife, great weight, and CPM-M4 is an incredible powder blade steel (it is superior to my regular Griptilian or my Cold Steel HoldOut II, and as far as I can tell, although I have never used this knife, it equals the S30V in my Volli). And, I might add, I love the dove-gray color - not shiny, not black like I usually get, a nice in between, soft color that I would buy more of.

This knife is now discontinued and, being a limited edition, that means anyone that wants one has to find one.
Other knives on the Benchmade site using CPM-M4? Use the wizard [http://www.benchmade.com/products/product_list.aspx?material=CPM-M4] and you will find they are all really expensive:
Contego: http://www.benchmade.com/products/810 -- $210
Pardue: http://www.benchmade.com/products/940-121 -- $500
Griptilian: http://www.benchmade.com/products/551-101 -- $400

Complete with the box with, of course, matching 187 of 500 number, little black silky case, instructions, the whole shmear. If you are a Benchmade collector, you do need this knife. The only hard part might be convincing your wife that you need it or buying it before you get your tax refund!

At these price levels, adding shipping is pretty redundant. There is a little difference in what I pay eBay, but I am donating to charity: water so I will pay that extra commission and you can know that someone somewhere will be able to drink what we in the USA take for granted every day. Check out their website charitywater.org, please, even if you do NOT buy this knife.

Speaking of the USA - this is made in the USA, sold in the USA and shipped to the USA only. In that respect I am a proud and discriminating American citizen.

My choice of shipping is probably gonna be Priority Mail - I haven't checked the actual weight and if First Class would save me anything I'll use it, being no fool. Yes, I'll insure it, too.

Payment by PayPal, of course.

Here is the description from the GP Knives website at http://www.gpknives.com/bm556minigripcerakotem4limited.html

I looked up Valox at http://www.sabic-ip.com/gep/Plastics/en/ProductsAndServices/ProductLine/valox.html. It is described as:

VALOX family of thermoplastic polyester resins are semi-crystalline materials based on polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) and/or polyethylene terephthalate (PET) polymers. VALOX resin formulations include many performance-matched grades designed to provide application-specific property profiles. VALOX resins combine heat and chemical resistance, as well as outstanding electrical properties with exceptionally good processability and surface appearance.
New VALOX iQ* resins are created with polybutylene terephthalate (PBT)-based polymers derived from 60% post-consumer plastic waste, consuming less energy and yielding less carbon dioxide (CO2) in their manufacturing than traditional resins.
I looked up the specifics for CPM-M4 steel, http://www.benchmade.com/products/materials.aspx, and found:

The forums at Spyderco included:
"In your experiences, have you ever come across a steel that can do everything as well as CPM M4? CPM M4 has good edge holding, sharpening ease, toughness, strength, and is not a rust monster people make it seem like. It gets super sharp, very easily. It will resist deformation and chipping more so then many other steels used in folding knives, while holding a great edge for a long time. If it had a weakness it would be corrosion resistance, but it really is no slouch there either. What other steels come close to doing everything as good as CPM M4 all around?Thank you for looking, email me with questions, and may your blades all stay sharp!"
The corrosion resistance may be enhanced by using Tuf-GlideĀ® regularly, but if you don't use it you're in good shape.

Thanks for looking, please write with questions. May your lines stay taught, your powder dry, and may you always have sharp blades!
