VIOLINS of GREAT FALLS

Visit my eBay store  VIOLINS of GREAT FALLS
Beautiful Old German Violin "1818 Anton Jais" This is a good collector violin violin for this era. This violin maker Anton Jais who was born in Furth, Niederbayern, Bayern Germany, in 1748 and died in 1836. He married Catharina and had a daughter named Anna Maria Jais. His father was Franz Jais and grandfather Andreas Jais who was trained by Matthias Kloz who was trained by Nicolo Amati himself as the rumor goes. Probably why this violin so exactly represents an Amati model. Anton's brother Johann Jais became famous in his own right. Built before the influx of the factory fiddles that have inundated Germany. Before the Napoleonic wars that changed the way violins were creatively built by one maker at a time. When Napoleon abolished the Holy Roman Empire, Bavaria became a kingdom in 1806, and its area reduplicated. Tyrol and Salzburg were temporarily reunited with Bavaria but finally ceded to Austria. In return the Rhenish Palatinate and Franconia were annexed to Bavaria in 1815. Between 1799 and 1817 the leading minister count Montgelas followed a strict policy of modernisation and laid the foundations of administrative structures that survived even the monarchy and are (in their core) valid until today. In 1818 a modern constitution (by the standards of the time) was passed, that established a bicameral Parliament with a House of Lords ("Kammer der Reichsräte") and a House of Commons ("Kammer der Abgeordneten"). He built this violin when he was 70 years old and at his best. It has a beautiful one piece tightly quartersawn back. It is delicately made with a golden brown varnish and a yellow ground. He built his violins around Mittenwald in the upper Isar valley in the Alps of Bavaria, Germany. It is hand signed in pencil. Note the photo of his handwriting. Anton Jais in Mittenwald an der Isar 1818 It is beautiful instrument with a lovely figured maple. It's tone is strong and even. It has been repaired many times from the sign of the wear. But it is tight and clean. The neck was obviously broken at some time but it is solid throughout. The fingerboard is cocobola and nut is also. It is an exact replica of the Nicolo Amati model other than the model is slightly larger in dimensions. Very rare to find one that is not a Stainer. Most of his violins were modeled after Stainer copies. This matches the Amati pattern beautifully. Not only that but the varnish is iridescent and soft like the true Amati's. The violin is signed in his own hand on the inside table. It has had many repairs over the years mainly to the neck and button. Also around the f-holes work has been done. Please ask questions. All sales are final. This violin is AS-IS because of it's age and previous repairs. I do not provide a return policy on an item such as this. Thank you.
