One does not really understand how this music compliments the movie until it is separated from the movie. If you listen to The Dark Knight you can place where the music fits into the second film, you remember moments. But the first score is more subtle, it creeps underneath the visuals, lingering there like a snake slithering. You cannot place where the music fits, it is its own animal. The Batman theme is haunting, it's one of the best musical themes ever devised. It is there, existing, like some evil villian you can't get rid of, like death waiting with his sickle in his hand. But waiting for who? Batman? No. His enemies! This is an excellent score. I liked many of the other scores, by Elfman for example, but this one takes mood-music to a whole new level. It is the music of the stalker, it is the music of the night, the music of, say, a nightwing.Read full review
