This beautiful siren, Aoife (Irish pronunciation: [ˈiːfʲə], English: /ˈiːfə/ ee-fə), is the first doll entirely sculpted, painted and finished by Brooklyn-based artist J. David McKenney.
She is cast from Flumo -- an incredibly strong, light, nearly unbreakable air-dry slip cast in plaster molds (much like porcelain). Aoife comes with both human legs and a red spotted fish tail. She also comes with a braided black mohair wig with "ocean treasure" embellishments, and a sequined, "shipwrecked" dress for when she visits land. Aoife is made up of 26 separate parts, and when strung together (with elastic cords) she measures 25" with her human legs and 30" with her tail. Aoife's creamy white skin, freckles, blush, and ocean blue eyes are hand-painted by the artist. Her fingers are slightly webbed and her ears are pointed. Her head measures 8" around and her wig is removable. Her legs pose easily and she can sit up unaided. Despite being a mermaid, Aoife should never be submerged in water. Although all of the doll parts have been coated in a plastic sealant, Flumo is an air-dry clay that that cannot get wet (cleaning with a lightly damp cloth is fine). Aoife is easy to string, and her legs and tail may be switched out with little effort. Instructions and tools are included. See her creation:
