Authentic Japanese Calligraphy & Woodblock Print

(Custom Mat Included!)

BUSHIDO

Bushido is Japanese for "Way of the Warrior" and was the code of conduct by which the fabled samurai lived their lives.

In this print, the Japanese kanji symbols for Bushido (the 3 largest symbols running vertically on the right) are brushed by hand onto a beautiful sheet of Japanese paper.

To the left, the 7 bushido virtues are carefully brushed (read from top-to-bottom and right-to left):

"Gi" Justice

"Yu" Courage

"Jin" Kindness

"Rei" Courtesy

"Makoto" Sincerity

"Meiyo" Honor

"Chugi" Loyalty

The Japanese kanji symbol for Bushido and  the 7 bushido virtues are brushed by hand over an original woodblock pressing of the famous Ise Futamigaura. The mat is included, so all you have to do is put in a frame and hang it on the wall! This is a great gift of encouragement for anyone who appreciates Japanese art.

A beautiful authentic woodblock print that is crafted in, and sent directly from Japan. All of our work is guaranteed to be authentic.

These are not reproductions. Each print is individually made in a detailed 3-stage process:

1) The background image is cut into piece of wood.

2) The design from the block is pressed on high-quality Japanese paper.

3) The calligraphy is brushed over the artwork.

* Please note that this print is done in the "gomasuri" woodblock style and the tonal variations (areas where specks of underlying colors or paper show through) are intentional. This is  done to distinguish the work as a hand-pressed woodblock print.

As all pieces are individually crafted, each pressing will vary slightly from the picture.

Dimensions:

Total Paper Size: 10.11" x 14.33" (257mm x 364mm)

Total Size with Mat: 12.00" x 16.69" (305mm x 424mm)

The mat has been chosen to accentuate this piece and is custom cut from handmade Japanese paper (note the texture). It is included to retain the authenticity of the calligraphy, and to simplify the framing process.

This size is made just a little over a standard 12''x16''(A3) frame, so that it can be trimmed to individual needs. Japanese art is traditionally displayed in simple black or brown frames. Since the mat is included, there is no need for expensive custom framing.

From the Artist: こんにちは オークションへようこそ。私は藤原真奈美と申します。日本の大阪出身です。書道と木版画を楽しんでいます。そして、これらの文化をあなたと共有し、楽しまれることを望んでいます。アクセスして頂き、ありがとうございました。

Translation: Hello and welcome to my auction. I am Manami Fujiwara and I was born in Osaka, Japan. I enjoy doing calligraphy and woodblock prints and sharing my culture with people from other countries. I hope that you enjoy my work. Thank you for looking.

About the Artist: She is a Japanese native with over 30 years of experience in the art of calligraphy. (This page has been translated for her.)

All pieces are individually brushed. When finished, they are marked with the artist's hanko (stamp) . Their authenticity is absolutely guaranteed, and the work is produced and shipped from Kanazawa, Japan.

Note: Please be careful when buying Japanese calligraphy. Some are clearly done by amateurs; some of whom are not familiar with the Japanese language. Often the kanjis are not correct for the intended meaning. (We've even seen this on tattoos!) Authentic Japanese calligraphy is an art that takes many years to truly master. This piece is done in the beautifully fluid "gyosho" (semi-cursive) style.
