HELLO AND WELCOME!  UP FOR AUCTION IS:

A beautiful Black Forest 16 inch musical cuckoo clock by Hubert Herr. Clock features hand painted dancing figurines which turn while the Swiss made music box plays "Edelweiss" or "Happy Wanderer". Very elaborate carvings, with squirrels and bird (all with glass eyes) . Reads GERMANY on bottom of wooden dial. The night shut off silences the cuckoo call and the music.  There is also a small lever that secures the door that you can move to keep the cuckoo from "cuckooing".  It has one small chip on the wood not noticeable from the front (see pictures with yellow indicators).  I have not been able to find another of this exact one on the internet.  Bought in 1992, it has an original receipt of $260.37.  I have owned it since then.  Has been hanging on wall and used very little.  Inside clock on mechanism reads the following exact and to the capital lettering true:   "Made in West Germany....... GM 1884288 1892176........ 25/1-A...... NO (0) JEWELS unadjusted...... REGULA...... Synt.-Oil Clock 859".  Pine cone weights read 275 ET.    The Original Black Forest cuckoo clocks have mechanical movements, just like they had been made centuries ago. Cuckoo clocks with mechanical movements need winding up. The 1-day movements need to be wound up every day  (See 25/1 = 1 day movement and "A" stands for 1970 or 1990.  The letters cycle back to "A" every 20 years, hence this one with receipt is most likely to be made around 1990).  The cuckoo clocks are wound up by pulling the chains down. That’s why a cuckoo clock has to hang about 6 feet high otherwise the weights can’t extend completely.  As a consequence the movement would not be wound up entirely. If the cuckoo clock hangs too low it is not a problem, but the running time of the movements is reduced and winding up has to be done more often.  All mechanical movements have been made in Germany. Most manufacturers buy their movements from an engineering company called SBS FEINTECHNIK which is situated in the town of Schonach (Black forest). Some manufacturers like Hubert Herr still make the movements in their own workshops. Usually mechanical cuckoo clock movements run for decades.  Although it needs cleaning and oiling, this clock runs and operates.  The Black Forest clock makers recommend getting the cuckoo clock movements maintained by a clockmaker every 3-5 years.  Cuckoo Clocks with mechanical movements are by far the most popular Black Forest Clocks because they express the century long tradition of clock making in the Black Forest in the best possible way.

On Aug-01-12 at 19:07:26 PDT, seller added the following information:

Yellow indicator for chip replaced by newer picture.  I neglected to replace indicators, but chip can be seen in picture #8.  Picture #8 shows rear view of the top of the clock.  The chip is clearly and easily seen on the right hand side just above the roof of the clock itself.  I emphasize once again, this chip is slight and can not be seen except from this view, the rear of the clock, which will be facing the wall.

On Aug-02-12 at 19:15:45 PDT, seller added the following information:

This clock is now for sale only on eBay.  I have taken it off the local market for my bidders here on eBay.  Please note, I have tested the operation of this cuckoo clock, and all features function.  HOWEVER, it will need to be serviced (cleaned, oiled, adjusted) by a clockmaker for it to operate and run true.  The pendulum will swing and then stop.  This just shows it needs the above.  When shipped I will lock the chains to keep them from slipping off of their respective cog, so that will not be an issue.
