The Artists As Catalyst portfolio is available for purchase for
the first time since 1994. Originally created to support the Alternative Museum
in 1992, the portfolio includes work by ten contemporary artists of
international reputation whose work is focused on social and humanitarian
issues; Ida Applebroog, Luis Cruz Azaceta, Leon Golub, Luis Jimenez, Jerry
Kearns, Komar & Melamid, Adrian Piper, Ben Sakoguchi, Andres Serrano, and
Lorna Simpson with an introductory essay and rare print by former MOMA curator,
Robert Storr. Produced in a limited
boxed set edition of 100, these hand pulled serigraphs measure 26” x 26” each
on Lennox 100 paper, printed by Master Printer, Jos Sances (Alliance Graphics,
San Francisco, CA). The portfolio has
previously been sold to major collectors and museums including the Museum of
Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Brooklyn Museum, NY, The
Fogg Museum in Boston, Williams College and Columbia Museum of Art among
others. The portfolio is generously donated to the Greene County Arts
Council by co-founder and former director of the Alternative Museum, Geno
Rodriguez uniting the museum’s twenty-five year commitment to socially
conscious art with the social justice message at the heart of the Occupy
movement. Proceeds from the sale of this
work will go toward expenses for We the People, an exhibition and related panel
discussions exploring the global Occupy protests’ historical, political and
artistic significance. Curated by Geno
Rodriguez this immersive, multimedia experience is the introduction to Wall
Street to Main Street, a ten week festival taking place in vacant storefronts
on the Main Street in Catskill, New York, March 17 – May 31. This project
brings a human rights message to the people, is framed in a positive light
designed to educate, engage and inspire with visual arts projects,
performances, workshops and seminars. Sponsors are The Catskill
Arts Initiative's Masters on Main Street project through the Greene County
Council on the Arts, a 501c3 charity. The winning bidder will receive a receipt
for a tax-deductible donation and portfolio as a gift. |
