Bringing out the true beauty of this piece in photographs was quite a challenge! Obtained from a local estate, this Swiss made cylinder, hand crank music box is not in working order and is being sold as is. The case itself is in good used condition for its age and has a beautiful grain to the wood and a very pretty floral and musical instrument design on the top. When the case is opened, the original dust cover glass is intact through which the inner workings of the music box can be seen. Attached to the inside of the cover is the 8 aire tune card with titles such as Uncle Sammy (a march), Sweet Saturday Night (a waltz), and Peggy Brady (another waltz). There are 2 levers on the right, one for play and stop, and one designated change and repeat. On this same side is the crank handle, which has wear to its metal and handle paint. Inside, the cylinder appears to be in good condition and all the teeth on the comb appear to be intact. Noted on the metal frame is USA Patent. Sept 25, 1894. The music box measures approximately 15 1/2" long, 6 1/2" wide, and 4 1/2" tall all with the lid closed. Also notes are the carved IV or IX which can be seen on the back underside of the lid. Some of inside mechanism details have been photographed as well as a chip in the wood on the inside of the box where the crank enters. It is unfortunate that the piece does not play, but with some professional work, the beauty, style, and memory of a bygone era may be brought back to life.
