Antique~Wards Lakeside Push Reel Mower~Ca.1920-30s
Offered is an antique Reel Mower made by Montomery Ward, under the Lakeside brand. The Lakeside forge in Chicago apparently made a number of things for Montgomery Ward. Not sure if it was a subidiary or wholly owned by Montgomery Ward, but lots of metal items or items with metal components carried the Lakeside brand, and were sold via Montgomery Ward.
The push mower is circa 1920s-30s. For it's age its on pretty good condition. Expected wear, but not abused. The wood handles and stem are in very good condition, no cracks or repairs. The Wards/ Lakeside silkscreen decal is still visible, showing model # 84-8214 . The hard rubber airless tires are still round and work/turn well. Yes, some dings and marks from usage, but no cracks or big chunks out of the rubber, nor any flat spots. The cutting reel is 14" in width, and the whole mower measures about 4'8" from end of the wheels to the top of the handle. Lots of green paint left on the metal wheels, while less of the yellow paint on the metal bracket/fork which holds the reel. The blades probably could need sharpening, but they spin freely and amazingly, still do a pretty good job cutting grass. Wheels, including tires measure 10" in diameter, and each wheel has a small porthole for adding oil. The wooden roller, behind the wheels and blades, used to stabilize and hold the mower upright, turns freely, and is in good round condition.
I could break it down for shipping, but I would prefer to try it locally first, so available for pick-up only in the Northern Virginia suburbs of Washington D.C. Thanks for looking !
Foreign Bidders-If an item is not offered for overseas/foreign bidders, please don't email with questions, they will probably be ignored. With current shipping restrictions and costs, if it doesn't fit into a flat rate envelope worldwide for 12 dollars~Canada 7 dollars, or weighs over 2 lb., chances are I don't offer it for buyers outside of the U.S. . I have considered these factors during the auction creation process. Sorry, the USPS and rate increases have wiped out what used to be a great worldwide market for items of modest value.
