Exceptional Vintage French Pure Linen Sheet UD Monogram 85" x 118"

 



This is one of the Fabulous Collection range ofsheets from Faded-Grandeur!! Exceptional quality antique sheets made from French linen 'fil' or very high quality linen using the longest and best strands. They will be fluid and supple and 'heavy in the hand' as good linen should be. Some are monogrammed, others embroidered, but all the very highest quality craftsmanship, and getting rarer to find each year.

The whole sheet is handmade - even the hems are hand stitched, and I have included a photo of the back of the monogram so that the reverse of the stitching can be seen. Exceptional handstitching.

Across the whole of the sheet width and also down the return  for 21" or 54cm, there is a laddderwork hem, and also a series of ladderwork zigzags interspersed with raised embroidered Bourdon dots, echoing the ladderwork hem.

Imagine how this would look on a king size bed, with its deep sheet turndown, and such exquisite emrboidery! Perfect for a boudoir!!

This is a fabulous antique French dowry or marriage sheet.

 Also adorned with a huge UD monogram in the centre of the turndown. The initials are in an art deco style in a diamond shape, with extra swirls on the letters and embroidered dots for extra decoration .

 It would be divine on a king size bed, but also would make a perfect drape, especially around a bed.

Dimensions of sheet: Width 85" or 216cm by Length 118" or 300cm

Over 7 foot, by just under 10 foot!!

Dimensions of monogram: 6.5" x 6" or 16cm x 15cm

 


Condition: Excellent, with a few very faint rust marks  to the right of the monogram (shown in photo 2), a welldone repair the size of my fingernail at the bottom of the sheet (opposite end to the monogram) and another mark at the other end of the sheet, shown in the last photo. Nothing serious, just mentioned for accuracy.


As with all my linens this sheet is freshly washed, so ready to use.


This sheet would have been part of the bride's 'trousseau' or dowry linen with both the bride and groom's initials embroidered onto the linen. Some of the trousseau the bride would have made herself, others would have been given as wedding presents.
