Antique Barber Bottles
Cobalt-Cut-To-Clear Glass
Elegant Figural Stoppers

First, we would like to thank you so much for looking and would now offer for your consideration an unusual estate find. This is an antique pair of fine glass barber bottles most likely made in Bohemia or possibly England, circa 1880’s – 1900’s. There are no maker’s marks present on the bottles or their stoppers.

The matching bottles stand 6” high from base to the top rim and measure about 8.5” in height with their stoppers in place. The top of each bottle is made with a ¾” long spiral collar for the old nickel and silver twist caps. Bottom underside of each base is ground and polished. There are no twist caps with this pair, instead, they are capped with ornate figural stoppers cast with an antique brass metal alloy. Although no one can be certain, these figural stoppers may have been later purchased as ornate replacements by their original owner. A sharp pointed screw is mounted to the underside of each cap for attachment of a cork. We have added new corks to replace the ones missing at the time of their purchase. We deeply appreciate Ebayer D.R. Wynn for the recent information imparted to us regarding the stoppers. "The stoppers are Italian. You have a Putto holding dolphin, a famous statue in Florence. The lion grasping Staff with 5-part Fleur-de-lis on top is often just marked 'Firenze' (Florence), so Florence Lion. The 5 part fleur-de-lis is coat-of-arms and icon for the city of Florence." These bottles were obviously well used and show age wear as discussed in the “Conditions” section below. For further visual details, multiple views of both pieces are provided in the photos below. These artistic antique pieces have been gently cleaned and are ready to make elegant additions to any fine display or collection.

Condition:
This old pair originates from an extensive antique collection. The bottles present with aging issues showing they were once heavily used and are being sold as is. CONDITION issues are: (1) residue stains are present on the interior of one bottle as shown in the Bottle Two photos below, (2) Bottle Two (with the residue stains) has a ¼” gash chip on the bottom edge of its base and also has about 3 tiny nicks to the top rim of the bottle (when the stopper is removed), (3) Bottle One has some residual staining on the interior bottom of the bottle, (4) a 5/8” gouge chip is present on the outer top neck ring of Bottle One, (5) multiple small chips are present along the top rim of Bottle One, and lastly, (6) some slight age wear to the brass finish is found on the metal stoppers around their thinner edges. Also, scratching appears on the bottom undersides of both bottles where the glass comes in contact with other hard surfaces. FLAWS from the time of manufacture appear to be: (1) some cobalt blue lines and spots within the clear glass. Multiple photos of each bottle and condition issues discussed above are provided below for your further review & inspection. Please be advised that these fine antique collector’s pieces have been photographed and described to the very best of our ability and are being sold as a previously owned estate item. Please feel free to ask all questions prior to bidding or purchase. For more quality antique and vintage estate finds, you are invited to view our other items.
