A 500 Piece Collection Including Notes for as Little as a Single Mark to Notes for 1 Billion Marks.
If only We Could Still Spend Them Today!!!
This is wonderful collection of German Notgeld money vouchers all nicely preserved in an album (no glue used thankfully). They are from the periods of 1914 to 1924 and were printed after the war when inflation really started to rise. These marks were printed by the towns within Germany and Austria during this very difficult financial time. They received permission from the government to do so because they themselves were unable to keep up with the demand of printing notes. These notgelds were referred to as emergency money or vouchers and could be used by the people for purchasing items and necessities that were needed. However, even the towns had trouble keeping up with the superinflation they were experiencing and these marks were barely worth the paper they were printed on. They eventully had to print marks in billion and trillion marks denomonations. Many of these bills are like works of art, having beautiful, colorful graphics. Some even have very sarcastic, even insulting, remarks towards the government and the hard times that they were going through. There are approximately 500 bills in this collection, including a few desirable billion marks bills. They are all in good condition and are stored in this scrapbook that was made in Germany at the time just for these notes. As they became worthless the people started to collect them. Our consignor was one such person and he collected every piece himself while living in Germany. This is a stunning collection that took a lifetime to accumulate, but one savvy EBayer can now own them for a very reasonable price that amounts to about a buck a piece! The book is 11 3/4" x 14 3/4" and the condition of th album is quite good with only expected signs of age. The book was designed to hold the notes without glue or tacking of any kind, so all of the notes can be easily removed and replaced withough damage.
