Kay Baby Bass Cello
THIS IS A VERY RARE 1950's 4/4 FULL SIZE ANTIQUE BABY BASS CELLO IN SUPERB CONDITION!!
This is a Magnificent Museum Quality Find!! We had bought this at an auction from a collector that was saving it due to it's RARE STATUS. This is Circa 1950 and is an ABSOLUTE GEM in terms of it being so rare and also due to it's superb condition! In addition to it being a beauty of an instrument, it also has a GREAT BIG DEEP TONE!!! You won't be finding another like this one, and especially in the condition it is in. It hardly has any signs of use!! There are NO CRACKS, NO SPLITS, NO SEPARATIONS of any kind!!
This BABY BASS CELLO is also unique in that it has the very easy and accurate TUNING GEAR MECHANISM system in the TUNING PEGBOX. This easy to turn metal gear system is fast and accurate when tuning this baby up! The gear system also eliminates the need for fine tuners on the tail piece. The instrument also has the ORIGINAL CHROME POLISHED STEEL SCRIPT LOGO attached to the tailpiece. This is made by the KAY COMPANY and this model was made in very few quantities as a SPECIAL EDITION BABY BASS.
The CELLO/BABY BASS also comes with a HARDSHELL CASE for extra protection when transporting the instrument. It is all set up with strings and it's fitted bridge ready to play. This would make some cellist/bassist out there VERY HAPPY to receive this as a Christmas Gift this holiday season! It has increased value due to it being a limited edition instrument in superb condition. There weren't many made, and not many have survived of the ones that were made. This fine instrument should be on display in a Music Museum for all to see it's quality vintage construction. It would make a collector of antique instruments ecstatic! Of course it could be used for play as it was intended to by a serious cellist, or a student as well. Although it is in fantastic condition, it is being offered here without warranty as is due to it not being new! It is offered without reserve so everyone can have a chance to bid on it and win it!
DON'T LET THIS ONE GET AWAY!!!THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET ONE LIKE THIS MAY NEVER COME AGAIN, SO BID ACCORDINGLY!!
MERRY CHRISTMAS, HAPPY NEW YEAR and GOOD LUCK BIDDING!!! More photos will be posted here soon!!

IMPORTANT ADDED INFORMATION: We were just made aware that this is even a more RARE CELLO/BABY BASS than we had thought! This is the "KAY B-5 Model BASS VIOL" BABY BASS. This particular model is even more RARE as it has the fingerboard that extends a bit past the actual wood neck of the instrument. The edge of the fingerboard is smoothed and rounded in a most unique way forming a molded like lip around and over the edge of the neck. We have seen many cellos, but have NEVER seen one like this before anywhere! This is one unique cello that you will never see again in this condition anywhere!! Whoever gets this museum find blast from the past vintage cello will be one happy camper!!! GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!
DIMENSIONS: 49 inches tall (without endpin pullout). Widest measurement across bottom of cello face is about 19 inches.

MORE INFORMATION ON THIS RARE INSTRUMENT:
Here is a message and request we had received here on the auction from the mfg. of this instrument, THE KAY COMPANY at KAY.COM. We knew this was a rare instrument, and the company's message below confirms that with their requesting the serial number to document for their historical archives registry. Here is their message:
I help gather information for the Kay Bass Registry at kaybass.com. We'd appreciate it if you could share the serial number of this instrument for inclusion in the Registry, as well as additional photos (particularly the build tag), as the B-5 model isn't very well documented. Thanks, and good luck with it!

If you click to enlarge the last photo and look closely at the last photo (of the tuning gear pegbox), you can see the extended lip edge of the black fingerboard that extends and overlaps past the neck of the instrument. You can also see how the edge of the extended fingerboard is rounded. We have never seen that on any Cello or Baby Bass before!...all making this a most unique RARE FIND from the FABULOUS FIFTIES!!!
