The "Anna Livia" Door Knocker originated in the 19th Century.

Anna Livia is a personification of the River Liffey in Dublin, Ireland and also the name of a character in James Joyce's Finnegan's Wake which also embodies the River.

Her classicizing face is crowned with leaves, and flanked by curling drapery suggestive of flowing water, which forms the striker. The striker has a beaded oval cartouche at center.

Echoes of James Joyce and Finnegan's Wake.

Ahh, "The Lady In The River". Her hair flowing with the tide, a

suggestive smile on her face as she gazed on the heavens.

One gets carried away with the thoughts of it all.

Anyway back to brass tacks as the man sez.

In the old days a substantial knocker such a this would have a foreboding

effect in the potential entrant. He hesitates, raises his hand, hesitates

once more and finally walks away like a wounded soul!

Now, the only thing, which separated him from the treasures within,

was in his own mind.

So young man grasp the nettle... or in this case the knocker, strike the striker

with conviction and step in to the realm of unknown possibilities!

The Anna Livia has become synonymous with the many fine Georgian houses throughout Dublin's fair city!

Bring her magic to your own door!
