Offered here is a classic Victorian bodice top or jacket. This is all original, very detailed and finely tailored with hand stitching. The inside is lined in a tan cotton muslin with boning or corset stays all the way around, has a stand up collar and lapel panels that drape from the shoulders in double sided pleats. The trim is very unique, it is embellished with buttons, this has the original hook and eye closures, on top are 7 clusters of 3 decorative metal buttons (21 total), these are all original, they are all silver metal with an embossed raised leaf pattern that makes them look like filigree work. On the lapel panels are also three 1" round buttons on each side, these appear to be glass with silver overlay. The bodice is edged with 3/4" corded gimp, which also accents the shoulders and lapels. The sleeves are true leg-of-mutton, very puffy at the shoulder with pleats that drape down over the arms and taper to a fitted cuff. The fabric is very unique also, it appears to be all cotton, it has a 1 1/4" black stripe alternating with a black and ecru woven 1 3/4" stripe. The fabric has a cored textured weave and is a sturdy weight. The jacket is very sturdy and clean, the only damage is that there are places through out where the weave has worn and is shows the lighter color, like the black cross threads have worn, there is some fraying at the back of the neck and under the collar, (see photos).The size is small, measures; waist 25", bust 34", length from shoulder to hem 17". Interesting note; there was pinned inside an old paper with "Miss Nissen" written on it (it is included). This is a fabulous jacket, a true Victorian classic, 130 years old.
