EARLY 1900'S

You are bidding on this LOVELY RARE ANTIQUE GERMAN TURN OF THE CENTURY WALL SCONCE / PLAQUE WITH CHERUBS / PUTTIS/ ANGELS PLAYING INSTRUMENTS IN PRISTINE CONDITION.  Marking as pictured with a blue eagle and under the eagle  is ' R. P. M. '  and  under that reads  ' Germany ' in gold leaf.   Markings indicate this piece was made by the Reineke Porzellan Manufaktur.   Researching this company I have found that this company existed in the early 1900's in Moschendorf Bavaria Germany. The company was run by Otto Reinecke who at that time had been asked by Meissen to manufacture for them but declined. The company was later absorbed into another company.  This plaque is definitely high quality and resembles many items that are made by Meissen or KPM - Royal Vienna.  The angels have a Dresden - like quality to their faces and bodies and are simply beautiful. The porcelain is of that certain quality that it has a ting  to it when handled.  Unique diamond- shaped  plaque measures approximately  10 1/2 " in width, 12 1/2 " in length and 4" in depth .   There is much relief work throughout the piece and with gilt along the outer border of the plaque. Under the gilt is a muted tan /  creamy pink border all around the plaque.  The inner area is a muted sage green with bolder green leaves and pink roses all in relief.  This inner area between all the angels is textured and mimics the look of clouds.   Midway on the left are two love birds  and a yellow rose.  There are 5 angels on the piece  that give the illusion that they are suspended in mid air . They appear celebratory and have pleasant expressions.  Starting with the 1st picture after the markings I will call this angel #1.  Angel #1 is the smallest of the five angels and is clapping the hands together.  Angel #2 is nearest the top of the plaque and is playing a mandolin.  Angel #3 is midway on the right side of the plaque and is holding a pan flute.  Angel #4 at the bottom is larger and  has cymbals on the hands and a muted violet covering on the lower half of the body.  The last angel #5  is at the bottom left  and is also large  with a muted pink sash and seems to be laying on a drum. The two bottom angels that are larger are approximately 4 1/2" long to give you an idea of their size.  There are areas on the plaque that are open relief and you would be able to see the wall behind it.  At the very top there is a hole done during the making of this piece for easy hanging.   In terms of condition this piece is pristine. I have gone over and it and there is not any damage to the angels wings, fingers, toes . or decor of this piece.  I do not see any repairs at all.   Gilt areas are intact.  I personally have had this piece in my collection for the past 20 years and it has been behind glass and untouched.  This was purchased at a high end auction near Boston to the best of my recollection by antique collectors who gifted this to me .  I am not an expert but am happy to answer any questions you might have. Seller pays shipping and insurance.  Happy to make arrangements for transfer of the item in the tri state New England area. Please be aware buyers outside the U.S. subject to shipping rate minus U. S. rate.  Please observe the pictures closely because they are the best indicator of the quality of this piece.  A rare find and addition to any collection.  Thanks for looking!
