NICE ANTIQUE NEW HAVEN INLAID MARQUETRY AND CARVED ACCENTS SCROLLED MAHAGONY WALL CLOCK WITH BELL STRIKE!
Made for the English schoolhouse wall clock market, we have a lovely New Haven circa 1880-990 inlaid or marquetry scrolled clock with carved leaf side accents. Clock case base is solid wood. Wonderful, warm and deep toned mahogany veneered case is in fine condition with a few areas of loss noted on the right side of the bezel. We have additionally noted areas at the edge of the frame which have come slightly open, and shown for you in Photos 2, 3 and 4. Beautiful hand carved cross hatched leaf enhancements at the side match the cross hatched pendulum door...note that the glass within the pendulum door was permanently attached at some point. Original filigreed pendulum is in place. The two dowels for attachment of the facepiece to the case body are in fine condition and allow the face/dial to be removed and replaced easily. The brass bezel surrounds a good glass dial cover well...opens and closes on a good hinge and closing clasp. Enamel on zinc dial is in good condition with signs of age and use with some loss here and there as you can see in our posted photos...one slight scratch to the left of the hands arbor also. Original moon hands are in place. Inside we have a marked New Haven 8 day 9 & 1/4 set of brass works...after many years in storage with the estate holders collection, when wound the clock started right up and continued to run nicely. Accuracy was not determined. The bell strike at the hour is has a lovely tone but is in need of adjustment as when wound, it continually rings until unwound. Side key holder hook is in fine shape...key is included. Age and storage dust and dander is noted...nothing that will not clean away. As with all of our estate timepieces and clocks, we highly recommend a professional cleaning with proper lubrication, adjustments and repairs after shipment to you for proper working condition and accuracy. Fabulous clock for your collection! Measures in at 28" tall. May ship in two separate shipments. Ask questions if you have them...will be carefully packed and shipped promptly upon confirmation of your payment.
