Quotes, "Since its publication fifty years ago, Animal Farm has become one of the most controversial books ever written. It has been translated into seventy languages and sold millions of copies throughout the world. This edition is being published to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of its original U.S. publication. It features 100 full-color and halftone illustrations by world-renowned artist Ralph Steadman. As vital and relevant as it was fifty years ago, Animal Farm is a devastating satire of the Soviet Union. A fable about an uprising of farm animals against their human masters, it illustrates how new tyranny replaces old in the wake of revolutions and power corrupts even the noblest of causes. This edition includes Orwell's proposed but unpublished preface to the original edition and his preface to the 1947 Ukranian edition. These appendices evoke the historical context in which Orwell conceived and wrote his classic novel." "All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others..." Ralph's drawings are in bright blazing colors. This is a wonderful version of a classic book with Steadman's genius added to the mix...
For whatever the reason, (the place & quality of manufacture), this book always seems to show shelfwear & does not age very well, the dustcovers are thin & very prone to wear & tear & the orange book boards & edges typically wear through.
Overall condition is of the dustcover is very good. This is an 18 year old hardcover book, is a sound & pretty solid copy, has a some scattered shelfwear & some normal signs of age, & use, considering the age, it's some what to be expected. No lengthy folds, no long heavy creases, no large wrinkle lines on the dustjacket. No big rips, no large tears, no heavy fraying, no chips, no chunks missing. The color is strong & bright, the dustcover is clean & white & has good gloss. There’s some mild age tone - no severe ageing, no all over deep browning or heavy yellowing. No big dark stains, no heavy grime, no sun fade, no foxing, no huge or numerous age spots, no liquid related issues. There's a couple little or thin orange rubs on the inside panels from the orange boards. No dark bleed stains, no damp marks, no water damage. Both flat panels have a little scattered surface rubbing - no all over severe rub & scuff wear - no color loss. The front panel has a few little surface marks, there's some impressions & small marks near both top & bottom edges, (I'll cover that in the edge area details). The back panel has a few thin surface rub lines, there's a thin surface line mark, & a short faint line mark. There's not all over hard surface marks on the outer panel, they are mostly pretty flat & smooth. No big harsh scrapes, no huge gouges, no long deep heavy line marks, no numerous or large indents, no lengthy severe bend & wrinkle lines, no noted amounts of deep finger marks, no all over giant impressions.
The corner areas are sound & pretty solid, have some normal shelfwear. The top back has small thin surface marks on the tip top edge. The back bottom has a little crimp on the tip at the fold. No big rips or tears or frays, no chips, no long creases, no large wrinkle lines, no noted folds, no giant wear spots. The outer dustcover edges are sound & pretty solid (photos # 10-12). The front top has a few fairly small light impressions below the edge, the front right has a couple little surface marks. The front bottom has thin rubs & little marks along the edge, there's a thin light surface line or impression above the edge. The top back has some rubs & thin marks & a few small crimps.
