ANOTHER TRAIN HIGHLIGHT FOR EBAY FOR THIS WEEK IS THE VERY SCARCE EARLY POST-WAR AMERICAN FLYER SET 1344 “ THE POTOMAC” WITH ELECTRIC ENGINE AND PASSENGER CARS, SITTING IN GRADE 10 BOXES WITH THE RARE SET BOX! THE SET IS NEAR-MINT TO MINT. THE ELECTRIC ENGINE IS NEAR-MINT AND LOOKS TEST-RUN AT MOST. THE AMERICAN FLYER SET 1344 WAS CALLED “THE POTOMAC” AND IS DATED 4-29, AND WAS THE MOST IMPRESSIVE AMERICAN FLYER HEAVY “O” GAUGE ELECTRIC SET. THE SET CAME WITH THE 3116 ELECTRIC ENGINE AND THREE TWO-TONE EMERALD GREEN/ ROOKIE TAN METAL PASSENGER CARS. THE PASSENGER CARS ARE ILLUMINATED AS IS THE ELECTRIC ENGINE. THE SET HAS THE SCARCE AND DESIRABLE “AMERICAN FLYER” TAPE ON THE ENGINE BOX. THIS SET IS IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND IN THIS HIGH-GRADE CONDITION! THE SET BOXES ARE AN UNBELIEVABLE HIGH-GRADE CONDITION! ****I HAVE NEVER SEEN AMERICAN FLYER BOXES GRADE 10 BEFORE, THIS IS A FIRST!**** THE ENGINE BOX HAS THE TWO ACCORDIAN INSERTS AND THE LIGHT-YELLOW WRAPPING PAPER. THE SET IS SURPRISINGLY WELL MADE AND EXPENSIVE LOOKING, FOR THE TIMES. IT WOULD HAVE COMPETED AGAINST ANY OF THE LIONEL PASSENGER SETS VERY WELL. IN MY OPINION, I THINK THE SET IS HEAVIER IN CONSTRUCTION, MORE DETAILED,, AND HAS A NICER PAINT SCHEME THAN THE LIONEL ELECTRIC PASSENGER SETS FROM THE SAME ERA. SEE ALL OF THE BRASS PLATES, RAILINGS LIGHTS, BELL, AND PANTOGRAPH.

Trains are in MINT TO NEAR-MINT condition, with original boxes and wrapping paper. Spectacular high-grade pieces of American Flyer’s desirable series “O” gauge Passenger Set with high-grade rare original boxes! THE ENGINE AND PASSENGER CARS HAVE THE STRAIGHT GLOSS ROOKIE TAN FRAMES! THIS SET HAS EVERYTHING, GRADE 9-9/10 ORIGINAL BOXES, GREAT TRAINS, AND ENGINE WRAPPING PAPER! THE TWO-TONE EMERALD GREEN/ROOKIE TAN METAL PASSENGER CARS ARE IN AMAZING CONDITION. ALMOST TOTALLY PRISTINE, WITH NO DENTS. THEY RETAIN THE ORIGINAL PATINA. THE ENGINE HAS BRASS AND COPPER TRIM WITH BRIGHT METAL NAME PLATES. THE WINDOW TRIM IS BRASS. THE HEADLIGHTS ARE IN ORIGINAL CAST-BRASS WITH WORKING BULBS. THE WHEELS ARE ORIGINAL WITH NO RUST OR CORROSION. THEY LOOK TEST-RUN ONLY.

The 3116 Electric Engine has the original wheels and pick-ups ( see photo close-up). It also has the original copper and brass trim, with fantastic condition original paint. Frame is straight, with no warping, and this unit has the nicest roof I have seen on a 3116. The original 3116 Loco box is high-grade with all sides intact, (Rare). The box is a grade 9. The box also comes with the original high-grade tape that has the AMERICAN FLYER PRINTING AND TRAIN PICTURE.. THE ENGINE HAND-RAILS AND ALL TRIM ARE PRISTINE AND SHINY, THIS IS NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND IN THIS HIGH-GRADE CONDITION, AND WITH THE HIGH-GRADE BOX. AGAIN THE BOX HAS THE TWO ACCORDIAN INSERTS AND THE ORIGINAL LIGHT-YELLOW WRAPPING PAPER. THE ENGINE AND PASSENGER BOXES ARE HARD TO FIND IN THIS HIGH-GRADE 8/9, 9, 10 CONDITION. THE 3116 ENGINE AND THE PASSENGER CARS ARE MINT- TO NEAR-MINT CONDITION. THIS IS AMAZING AS THE PAINT IS ALL ORIGINAL! THEY LOOK LIGHTLY RUN ONLY.

THE REST OF THE SET CONSISTS OF AMAZING NEAR-MINT TO MINT PASSENGER CARS THAT SHOW TO BE TEST RUN ONLY. ***SEE THE PHOTOS TO SEE THE DETAIL ON THE SIDES OF THE PASSENGER CARS.*** THE PASSENGER CARS ARE THE ILLUMINATED 3180 CLUB CAR, 3181 PULLMAN, AND THE 3182 OBSERVATION. THEY HAVE BOLD EMERALD GREEN ROOFS, WITH ROOKIE TAN SIDES. THE SIDE LETTERING ARE ON PLATES AND THE CARS HAVE THE “POTOMAC” LOGO. ALL OF THE CARS MATCH IN COLOR AND CONDITION. THIS IS NOT A PUT TOGATHER SET. THE COUPLERS AND WHEELS HARDLY HAVE ANY MARKS ON THEM, THEY SHOW LITTLE TO NO USE. I HAVE NEVER SEEN HEAVY METAL PASSENGER CARS THIS PRISTINE AND HIGH-GRADE. IT IS TRULY A SPECTACULAR FIND! The condition of the boxes are as follows: THE BOXES ARE FROM 1929-32. Box 3116 with wrapping paper and 2 inserts is a grade 9. Box 3180 is a grade 10. Box 3181 is a grade10. Box 3182 is a grade 10. THE OVERSIZED SET BOX 1344 IS A GRADE 8/9, IS STRONG AND HAS THE ORIGINAL LITHGRAPHED LABEL ON THE FRONT SIDE OF BOX. THE SET ALSO HAS THE ORIGINAL AMERICAN FLYER TRACK, AND THE AMERICAN FLYER BOOKET “MANUAL FOR SETTING UP OPERATING AND TAKING CARE OF MINIATURE ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT”. SET ALSO HAS THE PACKET AND THE TRACK CLIP. IT IS NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND PASSENGER CARS AND THEIR BOXES THIS HIGH-GRADE, MAKING THIS QUITE A STUNNING FIND! AND THE SET ALSO HAS THE RARE OVERSIZED SET BOX THIS TRULY IS AN AWESOME SET THAT YOU HARDLY EVER SEE, WITH THE BOXES! REMEMBER, THE DESIRABLE TWO-TONE EMERALD GREEN/ROOKIE TAN METAL PASSENGER CARS WITH THE 3116 ENGINE WITH BRASS TRIM. CARS, ENGINE AND EXTRAS ARE IN NEAR-MINT TO MINT CONDITION!****SEE GRADING CHART BELOW**** IF YOU ARE AN AMERICAN FLYER COLLECTOR, OR A SERIOUS COLLECTOR OF HIGH-GRADE AND RARE TRAINS, THAN THIS IS THE SET FOR YOU! DO NOT LET THIS ONE GET AWAY FROM YOU, AS I DOUBT THAT YOU WILL SEE IT AGAIN! TOTALLY HIGH-GRADE AND WITH HARD TO FIND BOXES! TRY TO FIND A NICER 1344 SET! See grading chart descriptions below. Latest fair market value (auction, live shows, private sales, internet, etc.) on these items, in this condition, are $ 2950.00 - 3700.00, at live auction they can go much higher! THIS MAGNIFICENT SET OF ENGINES AND CARS ARE TRULY FOR THE HIGH-END COLLECTION!

I am very particular in choosing trains. They must be high-grade, rare, and very desirable. Please feel very comfortable in your bidding as I have tried to buy only the best from collections or at live auctions, where I have examined the item!

Read the description, and look at the photos carefully, and please feel comfortable with our items and service. OUR GRADING SYSTEM: An amalgamation of grading systems from multiple auction houses, and grading services such as PSA in California, plus over 30 years of my buying at auction and shows. Highest to Lowest:

10= GEM-MINT, OR MINT+ (LOOKS FACTORY FRESH, NO FLAWS) 9= MINT, IS EXTREMELY HIGH-GRADE, BUT DUE TO ITEM BEING OVER 50 YEARS OLD, SHOWS AGE IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER, SUCH AS MUTED LUSTER, OR A RUB ON THE ITEM, AS BY TRUCKS RUBBING AGAINST PLASTIC, OR A MINUTE SCRATCH FROM SOMEONE TAKING IT OUT OF THE BOX, ETC. 8= MINT-(MINUS), IS LESS THAN MINT. AT FIRST APPEARANCE IT IS MINT, BUT UNDER CLOSE EXAMINATION, THERE ARE A FEW MORE RUBS, MINUTE SCRATCHES, ETC. MOST DEALERS AT SHOWS, WOULD CALL THIS TYPE OF AN ITEM MINT, DUE TO THE AGE OF THE PIECE. TRAINS ON A FEW OCCASIONS MIGHT HAVE A TEST RUN LINE ON WHEELS, EMAIL TO ASK IF THIS BOTHERS YOU, BEFORE BIDDING. THANK YOU. EVERYTHING HAS TO BE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION, INCLUDING THE AGE FACTOR. 7=NEAR-MINT, SOME SCRATCHES, RUBS, MAYBE A CRIMP OR TWO SHOWING MINOR PLAYTIME, BUT STILL VERY HIGH GRADE ITEM. AGAIN, TAKING INTO CONSIDERATION THE AGE OF THE PIECE, IT MIGHT HAVE MINUTE AREAS OF OXIDATION. THIS IS STILL A VERY HIGH-GRADE PIECE. 6=NEAR-MINT-/EXCELLENT+, BETTER THAN THE AVERAGE PIECE YOU SEE AT SHOWS. HAS SOME SCRATCHES, MAYBE A MINUTE INDENTATION, MAYBE A RUB HERE OR THERE. PIECE IS STILL ALL ORIGINAL, WITH NO REPAINTING. THERE MAY BE AREAS OF OXIDATION OR FLAKING. THESE YOU WOULD FIND AT SHOWS. 5=EXCELLENT, IS THE AVERAGE PIECE THAT YOU WOULD FIND AT A SHOW. THERE MIGHT BE SCRATCHES, RUBS, OR MINUTE INDENTATIONS; OR MIGHT ALSO HAVE SOME LIGHTCORROSION. PIECE MUST BE ALL ORIGINAL, WITH NO REPAINTING. 4=EXCELLENT/VG, IS BASICALLY THE SAME AS A 5, EXCEPT IT MIGHT HAVE HEAVIER CORROSION SPOTS OR DEEPER RUST. AGAIN, THIS IS WHAT YOU WOULD FIND AT A SHOW. STILL A NICE ANTIQUE PIECE. 3=VG OR VERY GOOD, THIS WOULD HAVE SCRATCHES, DENTS, HEAVY CORROSION OR RUST IN MANY SPOTS. THESE TYPES OF GRADED ITEMS ARE USUALLY GROUPED TOGETHER AT AN AUCTION. ALSO MIGHT HAVE SOME REPAIR OR TOUCHUP. THESE STILL MAKE A VERY NICE ANTIQUE FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES, OR TO START A COLLECTION. 2=FAIR OR GOOD, THIS WOULD BE THE SAME AS A 3, EXCEPT IT MIGHT ALSO HAVE SOME REPLACED PARTS, AND A GREAT DEAL OF RUST. SOME DEALERS USE THESE FOR PARTS. 1=POOR, TOO MANY PROBLEMS, JUST USE THIS TYPE OF AN ITEM FOR PARTS. ***PLEASE NOTE THAT THE INCLUSION OF THE ORIGINAL BOX WOULD INCREASE THE GRADE BY ½ TO A WHOLE GRADING POINT. OBVIOUSLY THE ORIGINAL BOXES ARE VERY RARE. THIS GRADING SYSTEM HAS BEEN AROUND FOR AT LEAST 12 YEARS NOW, AND IS USED FOR BASEBALL CARDS, ANTIQUE TOYS, COMICS, ANTIQUE GLASSWARE, ART, AND ANTIQUE COLLECTIBLES OF ALL SORTS. HOPE THIS HELPS YOU, AS I HAVE GRADED MANY COLLECTIONS, AND HAVE HELPED MANY AUCTION HOUSES WITH THEIR GRADINGS.

This is my grading system, not someone else’s, so if you disagree, ask questions, before you bid, so we can clarify the grading. We will try very hard to make sure that you understand the grading. This is very important to us and to you. If you still do not understand the grading system, kindly email me before you bid, and I will gladly answer your questions, before you bid. We go out of our way to make sure you have all of the information you need to bid. I TRY TO BUY ONLY THE HIGHEST QUALITY THAT I CAN FIND! Thank you and happy bidding!

PLEASE BE VERY REALISTIC WITH YOUR BIDDING! THIS IS A DESIRABLE AND HARD TO FIND PIECE! I HAVE SET THE RESERVE AT A PRICE THAT IS BELOW MARKET VALUE, AND BELOW A PRICE THAT YOU WOULD PAY AT A LIVE AUCTION, OR A COLLECTOR SHOW, OR A PRIVATE SALE. BUT AGAIN, IT IS A REALISTIC RESERVE PRICE SHOWING THE ITEMS QUALITY AND LATEST VALUE, NOT A 3 YEAR OLD BOOK VALUE! ALL CONTENTS OF THE LISTING IS SOLELY THE OPINION OF THE LISTER. THANK YOU AND HAPPY BIDDING!
