I so, so, so miss the windows mobile interface. I had forgotten how much I liked my original Dell Axim so I figured I'd get one to mess around with... Bad idea... It is soo hard to make simple things work like connecting to Wi-Fi. No even AES WPA support (not WPA 2, just WPA TKIP) I have a robust wireless system at home so I did end up getting that working... then we get to syncing. I still haven't got activesync or imap to sync anything... Not to mention most sites like htcgeeks and a few others are gone or people that are still there really don't have a lot of the old stuff anymore...

I recently purchased the Dell Axim X51v because I am a graduate student with a very busy schedule. The Axim is great for keeping tabs on my hectic life; it has an easy to use calendar system, reminders section, alarms – all the bells and whistles. With the Axim connecting to the internet is a breeze; it alerts you when a wireless connection is available and connects in seconds. The screen is far better on this PDA than any other I have used. It is large, sharp, and has great color. You can store just about any file type and view all of your photos. The touch screen is easy to use; you can even draw on the screen with the stylus. One problem I have had is remembering to turn off the PDA. If you don’t turn it off the battery will end up dead – very annoying. I set it up to turn off on it’s own but it still dies unless I turn it off manually. That just took some getting used to, now my battery lasts a very long time. Over all I recommend this PDA highly.Read full review
After using the Axim x51v for about 3 weeks, I concluded that the unit was way over my need. The Axim has so many features (minus a phone...) that you will stay busy just experimenting. The only real draw-back to the unit is the memory needed for apps. Most apps for WinMobile 5 require direct install, therefore apps will need to be removed/replaced/reinstalled etc. This is a minor setback. Besides, you want to be able to play with it. Being able to adjust the power usage is a nice feature and a must If your just playin a few hundred songs with expandable storage, you get about 6 hours of continuous play with the standard 1100 battery before needing to insert another. GPS- The bundle I toyed with had the GPS but you need not have a Dell GPS reciever to enjoy this feature. The Navtek software for the unit had no free map updates which I found rather disappointing. However, with between 5 and 7 sattelites pinpointing your position, the Axim had a +/- 10ft accuracy. Overall, the Dell Axim performed great. I do suggest however to install the free winmobile 5 upgrades as I did. (available at Dell) System stability was notably improved. (without the upgrade, system hangs were experienced sometimes requiring system restart)Read full review
Since I bought the dell Axim51V I have really enjoyed it. It is quick and fairly user freindly. I use an invoice template for excel and it has helped me out in staying organized. I use it as a universal remote for just about anything in my house and there are some perty cool games out for it that make those borring periods waiting rooms a little more exciting. from what I have used I would say that the dell Axim is one of the better ones. I think the battery life could be better, but it also has a lot of options that many palms don't have. Another issue I have had is that when I put in an SD card or flash card it dosen't always read it. Sometimes the card has even been in the slot for several days and viewed before. Oddly enuf the card just seems to disappear and I have to power down the device and power it back up. this is annoying as it takes several minutes to power back up. I keep GPS maps on my card so when It decides to not read the card that is definitly a down side.Read full review
