This is the undisputed king of books for U.S. coin collectors. It doesn't cover everything, but for all but the most advanced collector, this book represents the industry standard. This book covers all known colonial issues from around 1620 through the establishment of the U.S. Mint. In addition to all regular issues of United States coins, this book does a good job on Pioneer and California, and other states privately issued gold coins. There is a section on coins produced for the Philippine Islands while under U.S. Sovereignty too. For a very small amount of money, this easy to use desk-top reference is a great source of numismatic information.
This is a very informative book and I found it to be very helpful to use in grading my coin collection and for making buying decisions. There's also interesting historical information about the U.S. Mint and various people that designed the coins. It covers every coin issued by the United States, as well as some very early coins issued by the original colonial states. It also covers the estimated number of coins issued each year and the current market value estimates of each coin. The book that I purchased has the spiral binding and it works great as a reference book because it lays flat on the table and I can easily mark the pages I frequently use. This guide book is published annually and the 2013 edition is currently available. So if you want the most up-to-date information then buy the most recent edition. I bought this one because it was really cheap since it is now old news.Read full review
This is an excellent coin reference book and it is quite helpful in identifying both coins in your collection and those you may want to purchase. Being slightly out of date at the time I purchased it meant that I did not have to pay full price for the item. The book gives information on how to grade each coin type and also gives the metalic composition/weight of each type. It is a superior guidebook and has been issued annually for years. There is also the companion Blue Book which gives dealer's purchasing prices for various coins. James
