9:1 Longwire, Balun, Unun, Adapter

This is a great accessory for your "slinky" or other longwire antenna.  These longwire type antennas are hi-impedance in nature and work great when connected directly to the hi-z connector on your radio or when clipped to the telescoping antenna.  However, performance is reduced due to impedance mismatch when they are connected directly to the lo-z connector on your radio (coaxial connector or SO-239 socket).  This balun/adapter properly matches the longwire antenna to the lo-z connection on your radio for a significant increase in performance.  Additionally, the balun/adapter can reduce the pickup of local electrical noise from homes, factories, and the power grid.  Simply connect or clip the lead-in wire from your antenna to the wingnut screw terminal on the adapter and then connect coax from the built-in SO-239 connector to your radio.  Supply your own antenna wire and use the balun as an end insulator.  See my other auctions for other antenna options.

This balun/adapter is built around the popular and high-quality FT-140-43 ferrite core for coverage from 100 khz. to 60 mhz., including all the shortwave bands from 160-6 meters as well as the AM broadcast band.  This balun can be used for transmitting and handles up to 250 watts PEP.

Note: You can expect to see a signal improvement of at least 2-3 S-units in your receiver with this balun (this is 12-18 db).
