I am continuing to downsize my laserdisc collection. I hope to eliminate all but ten desert island discs. Eventually, I'll be doing this with all of my reel to reels, records, cassettes, and CDs. I find it difficult to part with some of these items, but it is that time of my life to let go.
I am selling seven (7) Beatles laserdiscs in excellent condition:
The first disc, The Beatles- The First U.S. Visit is on the Apple label and is in near mint condition (cover and laserdisc).
IMDB link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0109228/
The Beatles First U.S. Visit is a documentary by Albert and David Maysles (GIMME SHELTER) and tracks the Beatles first week in the USA, from their Ed Sullivan show debut in NYC, to their first American concert in Washington Dc, to their Ed Sullivan show appearance in Miami. The digital sound is quite good, and the in-between bits of the Beatles horsing around and mingling with Americans is as good as the musical performances.
The next disc, The Beatles- Making of A Hard Day's Night is a rare mint condition (cover and laserdisc), still sealed in the original shrinkwrap!
The Beatles- Making of A Hard Day's Night is the 30th anniversary retrospective of the movie that launched the Beatles to stardom on the silver screen. Hosted by Phil Collins (who appeared as an extra in the movie), this reminiscence includes interviews with the film's writer, producer, and director, as well as Roger Ebert, ex-Monkee drummer Micky Dolenz and others.
The third disc, The Beatles in HELP is on the Criterion label and is in near mint condition (cover and laserdisc).
A note regarding the Criterion Collection (from Wikipedia): The Criterion Collection (est. 1984) is a video-distribution company that sells "important classic and contemporary films" to film aficionados. The Criterion series is noted for helping to standardize the letterbox format for widescreen films, bonus features, and special editions for home video. Criterion is also known for making great efforts to restore and clean all films released on their label.
The Beatles in HELP stars: The Beatles (of course), Eleanor Bron , Leo McKern , Roy Kinnear , Victor Spinetti.
IMDB link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059260/
Plot: When Ringo adds a new ring to his collection , he's unaware of how important and dangerous this piece of jewelry is . On one hand , a religious cult considers it a sacred object and the wearer must become a sacrifice to their gods. On the other hand , the ring has magical abilities that hold the key to supreme power. Soon the boys from Liverpool are engaged in a slapstick and madcap chase round the world , as a crazed scientist , a pack of crooks , and several religious fanatics set out to capture the band.
Watch for the English Channel swimmer who seems to be perpetually lost and appears in nearly every location .This film includes a few Beatles' hits: "Help!", "You're Gonna Lose That Girl", "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away", "The Night Before", "Another Girl", "Ticket to Ride" , and "I Need You".
World premiere was at the London Pavilion Theater , July 29, 1965. Theatrical release : August 9 , 1965
Part of the film was shot on location on Paradise Island in the Bahamas in February 1965
The fourth disc, The Compleat Beatles is on the MGM/UA label and is in mint condition (cover and laserdisc) still sealed in the factory shrink wrap.
IMDB link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083752/
The Compleat Beatles, released in 1982, is a two-hour documentary, chronicling the career of the "Fab Four". Though it has since been supplanted by the longer and more in-depth documentary Beatles Anthology, The Compleat Beatles was for many years largely regarded as the definitive film about the Beatles.
Narrated by Malcolm McDowell, it includes extensive interviews with a number of sources close to the Beatles. Some of the people interviewed are producer George Martin, their first manager Allan Williams, Cavern Club DJ Bob Wooler, music writer Bill Harry, and musicians Gerry Marsden, Billy J. Kramer, Marianne Faithfull, Billy Preston, and Tony Sheridan. It also includes archival footage of interviews with members of The Beatles and their manager Brian Epstein. The film also includes early concert footage, behind-the-scenes background on the making of their albums, and candid footage of their often obsessed, hysterical fans.

The next disc, Imagine- John Lennon is on the Pioneer Artists label and is also in mint condition (cover and laserdisc) with the factory sealed shrinkwrap intact.
IMDB link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095360/
This "biography" evolves around the nearly 240 hours of film and videotape fortuitously taken by Lennon of his life. The archive footage is transformed into a fascinating life story of one of the most complex and fascinating men of the modern music era. This effort includes a 36 song soundtrack. Includes some very personal and insightful footage, never before made available to the public.
The Beatles- Yellow Submarine is the sixth laserdisc offered in this collection, and is in near mint condition (cover and laserdisc). IMDB link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063823/
Plot: The Beatles, at the height of their popularity, made this cartoon of a land that is taken over by the Blue Meanies. They are recruited by an escapee to come and bring joy (and music) back to the land. The techniques are quite psychedelic in the cartoons and much care was taken to have the walks and mannerisms of the individual Beatles cartoons match the originals.
The seventh and last laserdisc in my Beatles collection is The Beatles in A Hard Day's Night. Similar to the Help! laserdisc, this disc is part of the Criterion Collection, and is in near mint condition (cover and laserdisc).
IMDB link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059260/
Plot: The Beatles--the world's most famous rock and roll band--travel from their home town of Liverpool to London to perform in a television broadcast. Along the way they must rescue Paul's unconventional grandfather from various misadventures and drummer Ringo goes missing just before the crucial concert.
Any picture glare is is a result from my camera's flash and is not a flaw in the jackets.
