Possessed by any real standard is considered the grandfather of Death Metal. The technical drum work, the screaming vocals and lyrics about Satan and all of his dark glory are obvious reasons as to why it is what it is. Plus it has some of the best thrash riffs written by any band (See The Exorcist, Pentagram, Holy Hell, Death Metal). Granted this isn't for everyone. Some who are more familiar with the Gothenburg scene might find this album boring because of it's use of a less studio-heavy sound with Gothenburg's many layers of guitar work and technical drumming. So if you're a fan of death metal in particular and don't yet have this album. By all means buy it. As an overall purchase to add to a wide and varied collection of music this addition will help you familiarize yourself with how death metal became the genre it is today.Read full review
Seven Churches is one of the most sick, twisted and brutal albums ever. Those guys at the time where exceptional. Recorded during the Easter holidays (hell yeah!), we can easily say that these 10 songs invented a new form of doing metal, opening the gates to new genres like black and death. Ok, let’s take a look at the musical panorama at the time (1985): Slayer put out the dark, violent “Hell Awaits”, Kreator were at the beginning with their first album “Endless Pain”, Sodom had just released the mini “In The Sign Of Evil” in 1984 and Sepultura the “Bestial Devastation” EP. Wow, what a year for the growing extreme scene.
Possessed's mid-1980's album titled Seven Churches was probably the most evil thing to hit music ever, and featured, of all people, a rather young Larry Lalonde (of Primus fame) shredding his guitar along with Jeff BeCerra's (who would later get shot in a drug deal gone awry) demented vocals. This is my personal favorite record of the 1980's, and is even better now that Combat has gone back and remastered it. Along with Venom, Possessed helped lay the groundwork for extreme bands. Seven Churches is their debut and best album; though often overlooked, it should not be missed by death metal fans.
The CD it's a very good album and truly an all time classic metal album

This album is great and I got it for a great price. thanks so much. I like the thrashyness of it, the blatant satanism and the wonderful education it can provide. Its as entertaining as to catch a predator!
