NEW OLD STOCK '80s JAN (Joint Army-Navy) 6072A/12AY7 General Electric USA tube for guitar amps. Black ribbed plates, top flash gettering, green brand stamping, individually boxed. Superb choice for a lower gain, smoother sounding, 'bluesier' small signal tube in your tweed Bassman or other vintage guitar amp. Leo specified the use of the 12AY7 on the tube chart of some early original tweed Bassman amps; this tube is 'plug compatible' with 12AX7/ECC83/7025. The 6072A/12AY7 has also been used by Audio Note and other high end audio manufacturers with DC on the heaters to minimize the filament hum. While the 6072A excels as a toneful guitar amp tube we do not recommend it for any microphone use or for any other high fidelity application. The early RCA data sheets for the 12AY7 state that, due to the filament design, it is not a good choice for low noise applications. Angela Instruments purchased a large quantity of these tubes in sealed cases of two hundred some years ago from the Department Of Defense. Tube tested by Angela Instruments just prior to shipment.
