Set: Ck1 This is an auction for a custom collection of 6 leather stamps; 5 of which are customs, one (1) craftool stamp that has been modified (so you can't buy one like THIS anywhere else) and one of the customs being a vintage industrial part that was turned into a stamp. Set includes a FREE photocopy of a template for dividing circle into 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, & 8 divisions to be used with the craftool to create "Spokes".
Each stamp can be used alone or superimposed on other stamps (see multi-design photo – and that multiple looks can be created with this one set!). The embossed leather demo design took less than 10 minutes to create because there was little beveling and shading, yet it is a very complex and interesting design fitting with the ultra-modern and retro hipster style that is on the forefront of subculture fashion, but not yet mainstream.
And now a message from my Uncle who made the stamps: "If you look at this Steampunk Pocketwatch leather embossing and see imperfections, good, your attention to detail is great! I want you to look at the leather demo and say "I could do better than that!" because you probably can, I'm not a leather worker. I'm a blacksmith / machinist and I've never even taken a class in leatherwork, just picked up a few pointers from my nephew when he took a class a while back. He's asking me to make tools for leather workers and I couldn't resist trying them out... My point is that I'm in no way an expert leather crafter - just a beginner, and with these tools you can have beautiful results even with very limited experience and not a lot of time to spare. The outer circle of the clock was cut with a leather knife and the "rivets" were made with the end of a pilot ball point pen (ink retracted).
The most interesting thing about this kit is the crescent shaped "gear" that lets you superimpose it with another gear (or it's self) and create a border (or is it called a meander?). Also, the modified craftool can be used to create spokes in the gear of any number you choose (kit comes with a paper you can photocopy or trace onto tracing paper that divides a circle equally between 3 and 8 times (common spoke numbers) see photo). The modified craftool can also be used to create gear notches around the outside of a circle (or gear) in either the spike direction or the box end direction (see photos - it will make more sense). Point is that the options and possibilities in this kit are huge."
Kit includes one of each of the following:
G7, measures 18 mm across (= 0.7 inch)
W3 crescent, measures 19 mm across (= 0 .750 inch)
F4 , measures 13.4 mm across, (= 0.525 inch)
F10, measures 7.5 mm across (= 0.3 inch)
S12, measures 12mm across, (= 0.500inch)
Aside from the craftool stamp, all the other leather stamps were custom made by my Uncle who is a machinist. He would have charged anyone but me $75 each for these as it’s very hard to weld stainless steel without damaging the delicate cogs / spokes of the wheels. Regarding the customs, all parts are steel (mostly stainless) and each has an approximately 4 inch long stainless handle. Please practice on scrap leather before you use your good leather as the stamps are so newly made that there's still a bit of crud being transferred onto my leather samples... I've only hit each about 6 times. The photo of the stamps look a little rough, but they imprint like a dream in well cased leather and they can create the ultimate steampunk designs.
Please enjoy these cool leather stamps while they’re available, as I’ve never seen anything like them in a leather stamp and it’s not clear for how long my uncle will agree to make some for me (and you need some crazy expensive equipment to make them as well as really diverse skills)…
Please see my other items as you might find compatible things to save you time and money…
