Nice little filter kit. At this price you can't expect to compete with a pro kit that would likely set you back a couple hundred bucks+, but for the person that is more of a picture taker, like me, rather than a professional photographer these do an acceptable job. I knew this going in and see an improvement especially with the polarizer if I use it properly. It's not magic and is useless in certain weather/lighting conditions. For the dollar it will do the trick pretty well until you can upgrade if you want to, or give up and go cell phone. Those folks are delighted with their pictures, and they do a decent job, but I like to think I had something to do with it.Nice little filter kit. Vivitar Filters
I bought this set, because I'm getting back into photography. A friend of mine gave me an old Canon 1D MkII. He has several other newer, nicer Canon DSLRs, and doesn't use this one any more, so he passed the body onto me. Of course, now I'm saddled with having to buy accessories for it. So far all I've got is an EF 50mm f1.8 lens, these filters and some lens cleaning pens. I wanted a UV to put on the lens, mostly as a protector, but also for it's effect. I haven't tested the other two filters yet, but back in the days of film, I had two Canon A1 bodies, an FT-b body, and 7 Canon FD series lenses (all primes except for one zoom). I used to have a slew of filters. ALL my old FD lenses had either a Skylight 1A or a UV on them. Most of them were 52mm thread size. I had several ... I had several different brands of filters, Hoya, Canon, Tiffen, Promaster, etc, as well as some Vivitar. I also used a Vivitar 2x for Canon FD mount, and I had two Vivitar 285HV flashes. I bought this filter set based on the quality I remembered from Vivitar back in the past in my days of film. Initial appearances the filters seem to be of good quality build. I got this set because of the contents of the set and the price point, as well as the Vivitar name. If I'd gotten an individual UV, it probably would have been a Hoya, as I always found their filters to be a little bit better quality than most others, but this is a nice set. They are slim filters, but my Canon lens cap seems to have no problem staying attached. In the past I've found that some slim filters don't provide a good gripping area for a lens cap. So on that front, these seem superior. I have not tested the Polarizer or ND yet. I expect they will be just fine. One small gripe...although they give you a filter wallet with these, I wish there'd been a little more protection for the filters.

The Neutral Density 8 Filter (NDL) is great if you want to reduce the amount of visible light and change your aperture. The UV Filter (UV) is basically clear glass that protects your lens from the sun, dust, and environmental wear and tear. I also like the case because it's lightweight but also well padded, so a fall won't hurt your filters.Very good set of basic filters! Every one who is into photography should grab this set.
