Finca Santa Teresa is owned and operated by Juan Pablo Berard, a son of a Swiss dairy farmer who wanted to experience new horizons and seek his fortune in distant lands. Juan Pablo´s family sowed barley, sugar beets and other crops to survive during WWII. As a descendant of Swiss farmers, Juan Pablo has always loved the earth and all that it produces.
Juan Pablo studied agriculture in Switzerland and then returned to Panama with the idea of doing what he loved: working the land. He tried several crops until he settled on coffee.
Juan Pablo takes great pride along with everyone who works at Santa Teresa to produce coffee of the highest quality. The Santa Teresa team is pleased with what they have been able to achieve with hard work, technology, and excellent employees who take great care in what they do.
The farm, named Santa Teresa in honor of Juan Pablo´s mother, is carefully managed land that contains all the necessary characteristics in terms of soil, climate and environment needed to produce a coffee of excellent quality.
The Santa Teresa staff strives to ensure they pay close attention to preserving the environment, flora and fauna at the finca. The farm zealously conserves 40% of its land as virgin forest. The finca also has a large variety of wildlife, which they have trained all the employees to protect.
Since its inception, Villa Santa Teresa, the worker´s camp in the middle of the finca, has been committed to improving the housing conditions of its employees. Recently, electricity was installed in most common areas, and new shower, kitchen and social facilities were added.
At the start of each harvest, the finca sponsors a medical examination program. All of its adult staff and their children are given medical examinations and treatment that the doctor prescribes.
The farm is in constant growth, and maintains awareness of the importance of producing an excellent product and the critical link to the environment. Santa Teresa´s primary aim to maintain and improve our product as much as possible to the great satisfaction of anyone who likes to enjoy a great cup of specialty coffee.
