ACTUALLY I 'M USING MY NEWER CELLS NOW FOR THESE SALES  THEY HAVE BEEN TESTED UP TO  .55 VOLTS AT .5A   36 OF THESE WILL MAKE A 9 WATT PANEL.  THESE ARE MULTI-CRYSTALLINE CELLS AND DO NOT BREAK AS EASY AS THE EVERGREEN CELLS DO, ANYONE WHO HAS WORKED WITH EVERGREEN CELLS KNOWS HOW EASY THEY SPLIT DOWN THE LONG SIDE, THAT IS WHY YOU SEE SO MANY ADS FOR SPLIT 3X6 CELLS.

  I SAY 45 CELLS BUT EACH PACKAGE HAS 50 IN IT.
These cells are cut from larger cells and in the process their will be SMALL chips on some of the corners.

These cells have EXTREMELY SMALL NICKS OR CHIPS, so small on many cells I had to spin and spin and look very close to find the imperfection.   Be sure to check out the pictures, I did my best to get a few close-up pictures to show the size of the imperfections. I used a straight pin to point to the imperfection.  I tabbed some of these cells using a flux pen and leaded solder and my inexpensive  40 watt soldering iron with the tip modified chisel shape, it was easy and smooth both front and back.

* PAY ATTENTION  to thickness of the cells,  MOST SELLERS KNOW THE THICKNESS JUST DON'T TALK ABOUT IT MUCH.generally cells are getting thinner as time goes on, it cuts cost to use less material, 5 years ago  most cells on ebay were 300 um or
 300 microns thick,  then the industry went to 200um and many 180 um cells as well.  For the DIY person thickness = breakage.  Breakage is unavoidable  but do you best to minimize it.   Careful cell handling technique is learned through breakage.

MY CELLS ARE 200 UM AND EVEN THEN THE MANUFACTURER SAYS < > 30UM, THAT IS PLUS OR MINUS 30 UM,   WHAT THIS MEANS TO ME IS THE THINNEST MY CELLS WILL BE IS 170UM.   but IF YOU START WITH A 180 UM AND THEN  < >  30 YOU COULD BE DOWN TO 150 UM REAL FAST.
  I COULD HAVE BOUGHT THE 180 UM CELLS AND THEY WERE CHEAPER BUT I DID NOT, KNOWING THE 200 UM CELLS WERE A BETTER CHOICE FOR EVERYONE.

* PAY ATTENTION  to how many cells you are buying, if the ad says just 36 or  just 40  cells you will never have 36 good ones in the panel by the time you are done.   You will be back buying a few at a much higher price.  Expect to break cells " it comes with the turf"  The less experience you have the more you will break so buy accordingly the first time .

monocrystalline silicon (c-Si): often made using the Czochralski process. Single-crystal wafer cells tend to be expensive, and because they are cut from cylindrical ingots, do not completely cover a square solar cell module without a substantial waste of refined silicon. 1. THESE CELLS ARE  POLYCRYSTALLINE OR ALSO KNOWN AS MULTI-CRYSTALLINE.  EASY TO SPOT BECAUSE THEY ARE USUALLY SQUARE.
   
2. polycrystalline silicon, or multicrystalline silicon, (poly-Si or mc-Si): made from cast square ingots — large blocks of molten silicon carefully cooled and solidified. Poly-Si cells are less expensive to produce than single crystal silicon cells, but are less efficient. United States Department of Energy data show that there were a higher number of polycrystalline sales than monocrystalline silicon sales.

4. ribbon silicon^[21] is a type of polycrystalline silicon: it is formed by drawing flat thin films from molten silicon and results in a polycrystalline structure. These cells have lower efficiencies than poly-Si, but save on production costs due to a great reduction in silicon waste, as this approach does not require sawing from ingot  These are the famous EVERGREEN 3X6 CELL.

You need 36 cells to make an 9 watt panel
