Late 40s Alex Singer full chrome 56 cm c to c seat tube, 56 cm top tube, 650B wheels Great bike from one of the greatest French makers of the Golden Age. With the full chrome finish, Nivex derailleur, Singer brakes and stem, superb workmanship, this clearly was one of the best bikes available from the Singer shop. A very important bike in the history of hand-built bicycles. Few bikes of this quality have survived from this period (just post-war), and Herse and Singer at this time were turning out bikes that have never been surpassed. Very few bikes were made in this period, even less have survived, and to find one with excellent chrome like this is exceptional. The bike was obviously ridden and carefully looked after, this would explain the excellent chrome, and the period modifications that have been done. The intrinsic qualities of the bike should shine through the photos better than if I added a page of superlatives.
Fantastic balance, the 56 cm square frame looks just perfect.
The mudguard reinforcements are nicely done, but not Singer original.

Beautiful Singer clamp-on stem, cable-hanger has broken off. The super light Singer braze-ons are fragile (stem, derailleurs), Herse favoured a "beefier" more pragmatic approach.
Brilliant workmanship on this frame. Slight chrome peel here revealing the copper plate used before chroming.
Nivex RD, re-worked and rechromed by Singer.
The chain is here on the Nivex repose-chaƮne. If the modified Bell wing nut is unscrewed, the wheel will fall straight down.
Very short point fork crown, perfectly executed.
Bell/Maxi-Car/Robergel, a winning combination.
Modified FD, the original pivot is still there, but the Singer FD fixation will be cut. Interesting hand-built FD, the modification was most likely done to fit a triple chainring.
Super-light alloy back carrier.
Singer internal-clamp seat post.

Sealed BB, as everywhere else on this frame, the workmanship is outstanding.
Lug points are really beautifully filed down.
Unified head lug, the Singer trade-mark. The front carrier is either later Singer, or the original one modified to take a Soubitez light.
