This is a vintage recording studio from the early 1950's maybe even earlier . It is a Presto K-8 machine with a UTAH speaker built into the top . The machine is in poor shape a recent barn find in the gold country of California . It is marked Model K-8 , 110 volt 60 cycles and a serial number of 2828 (seems like a low serial number to me ) . On the bottom there is an Off/On switch , volume indicator dial , Tone knob that goes from 10 to 0 and to 10 again I think one mode is for turntable the other for record and a Volume control which also goes from 10 to 0 and then to 10 it says Phono on one side and Record on the other . There are plugs by the metal turntable for ; Radio , Monitor and speaker . The speaker still looks like it would work although the wire is gone (I cut it off because all the insulation was broken off ) I saved the bake-lite type plastic plug . The case is all together on the bottom but missing a lot of its fabric covering , the top which has the speaker in it is in shambles , missing one end and losing the fabric covering . I plugged it in and not surprisingly nothing happened (amazing enough the plug wires are in pretty good shape ) . This unit also is missing parts most notably the phono arm and I do not know what else . Obviously this rare unit is being sold for parts . I understand this unit is a Presto model K-8 Record cutting lathe , recording machine with a tube powered amplifier system produced in the early 1950's . It apparently cuts records using some sort of black lacquer records . Some of the rarest recordings were made on these machines , a true bit of History . Shipping and handling is $29.99 .
