May Take Some Time To "Train"
My application for this device was BOTH as a gigabit Ethernet adapter and as a USB 3.0 hub connected to the USB 3.0 port on my high-end Acer Chromebook 15 Full HD 1920 x 1080. The hub function works well, requiring no "training". However, the gigabit Ethernet adapter function may require "training", during which time the Chromebook kernel may attempt of determine the presence of specialized devices, such as the gigabit Ethernet adapter in this device. However, once "training" has been accomplished, access to the gigabit Ethernet adapter seems to work well, and use of the "Gog" application will show that BOTH WiFi and gigabit Ethernet are available to the user. The "Cog" application will show only WiFi availability until "training" has been completed. The RJ45 connector has neither "Link" nor "Act" LEDs to indicate Ethernet adapter functioning, or not, unlike most other Ethernet adapters, so use of the "Cog" application is highly recommended for use with this device.

Terrible Gigabit ethernet, OK USB 2.0 hub, constant disconnects on OSX, runs warm.
This is a USB 3.0 device that has a USB 2.0 hub connected to a gigabit Ethernet port. The hub is OK but the gigabit Ethernet part is horrible. Ethernet speeds are momentarily good but when hooked up to a commercial-grade gigabit router, I get constant disconnects and reconnects every 10-45 seconds on OSX, whereas an Asus-branded USB ethernet adapter I have works perfectly using the same setup. I believe the disconnects are due to electromagnetic noise sensitivity since it varies based on USB port--the Ethernet chip in this device does not appear to be designed well enough to tolerate external noise and will reset itself periodically. The hub registers as a USB 2.0 hub and appears to work fine without any disconnects. I award this product 2 stars: It's a piece of junk that doesn't do everything it should, but still does enough that I can't throw it out.

doesn't work on local LAN
I had hoped to put some USB external drives on my local LAN using the RJ45 Ethernet connection but neither of my iMac or Windows 10 computers can see the new drives on the network. The router doesn't see the drive either. Yes this is a hub and not a switch, but I would think I should she a device on the network. No luck. It is good quality, but I hoped for more.

Does not seem to be gigabit
Got this for a Kangaroo PC and it works well. It is USB3 as advertised and I do get USB3 speeds from different peripherals, however, I have yet to be able to get this to connect to my, or any gigabit network at gigabit speeds via USB2/3 (tried both). I have only been able to achieve 100MB connections no matter what I try, but it does work for a hardwired connection and still not bad for the price.
