USE AND CARE

To Store: Roll your PROlite with the top side (fabric-finish) facing outwards. This keeps the corners of the mat flat when practicing.

To Break In: The surface texture of the PROlite improves with use. Our customers have found that the best way to “break in” their mat is to use it on a daily basis. Another trick is to sprinkle coarse sea salt over your mat, scrub it down with a sponge, and air dry in the sunshine.

To Clean: We recommend using Manduka Mat Renew or any non-solvent household cleaner and a damp cloth or sponge. Hang to dry in the sunshine. DO NOT put your mat in the washing machine- it may break the machine and ruin your mat!

GREEN MISSION

Manduka PRO series yoga mats, designed to last a lifetime (or two), curb the amount of PVC mats that enter landfills every year and reduces overall mat consumption. Also, during the manufacturing of most PVC products, toxic emissions may be released into the air. However, PRO series mats are manufactured through a process that ensures no toxic emissions are released into the atmosphere. The Black Mat® PRO is certified safe for human contact by OEKO-TEX, an environmental certification agency in Europe for the textile industry.

MANDUKA STORY

Sometimes it’s the bumps in the road that end up defining our journey. This is the story of Manduka, a company founded on the simple idea that a better yoga mat could make a world of difference.

Over ten years ago, Peter Sterios, an architect turned yogi, discovered a simple, elegantly designed black mat whose combination of firm grip and complete support revolutionized his yoga practice. In honor of the yoga masters who inspired him, he sought to share this amazing product with others.

Peter had always been the beneficiary of great generosity from other yoga teachers. To repay that debt, he sent mats as gifts to many of the teachers he admired including Erich Schiffmann, Rod Stryker, Angela Farmer, Victor Van Kooten, Rodney Yee, and Shiva Rea. The teachers who inspired Peter were his first customers. And in the great yoga tradition, they shared their mats with their students, and a true yoga company was born. Peter chose the name Manduka in homage to his teacher and mentor, Shandor Remete, whose core practice and teaching always included the ancient Hatha Yoga Pradipika pose, Mandukasana or frog. The first time Peter heard and repeated the name of the pose he experienced a sense of childlike joy and delight as the sound rolled off his tongue. The word and the pose were mirror images, simultaneously playful and profound. The joy of Manduka is now spoken in more than 35 countries all over the world.

The quality and performance of Manduka mats and yoga accessories are still unmatched in the marketplace. They are still crafted using simple, enduring, natural, and whenever possible, renewable materials and a fine attention to detail. Manduka is a company built by and for yoga teachers and their students. And as Manduka celebrates its 10th year, we are still evolving, still introducing new products, and still celebrating the spirit and wisdom of yoga teachers and their students. From the road less traveled, something great and meaningful has arrived.

Manduka: for your practice and for our world. Namaste.

I love the PROlite.. I figured I'd splurge get either the Pro or Prolite for classes & use my "other" mats for home practice.. No way I'll never leave this PROlite. The problem is I have two homes so I can't decide if I should get another PROlite or go for the Pro for my other home.. Such a problem.

Well, I finally got myself a Manduka PROlite tonight at the studio where I practice. I would very much admit I am at the beginnings of what I hope is a very long journey of practicing yoga. I have been using a Nike mat, but decided I needed something more. I used it tonight for Hot Flow and boy am I impressed. I felt sturdy yet soft, light but supported. It was just a completely different experience. The colour is saturated and goregeous and just makes me happy to look at (I think it was the Pinot, which is less red than it appears online, more of a rich burgandy). I still will use a towel for hot classes because I unfortunately sweat a lot, it's just in my make up. I think the sticky texture will allow me to not use a towel for Hatha and other classes without heat (which would never happen before, unless I wanted to play slip n slide). I don't find it to be too heavy, although I will likely be getting a sling or bag for it just for ease of transportation. I can't wait to keep using my mat and see where it takes me, but I just had to write a review and say YAY!!!!! If you're debating to get one or not, DO. The quality of your mat really will make a difference in your practice.

Every time I pick up my PROlite Midnight mat on my way into yoga class, a beautiful feeling comes over me and I start really smiling from my heart.
What always amazes me, is how much it adds to my practice and really enhances the total experience for me.
After 12 months of intense use, it's only getting better
and that is a tribute to the exceptionally fine quality.
When you truly love yoga, this is a wonderful gift.
It makes you love yoga even more....
and that's a very beautiful thing.

I LOVE my Manduka mat. It was a gift from a friend. It's heavy duty, but will definitely last forever! I've been practicing with it for nearly a year and it's like brand new. If I forget it at home for any reason I get so sad.. I feel like I need my mat with me because no other mat is the same. And because it's so sticky I don't feel like I need to use a towel to grip even when I sweat.

I love my Black Mat PRO, but it's too cumbersome to take on a plane. While visiting family several states away, I started practicing on their Wii Fit yoga mat. After three days it started coming apart and I knew I needed a travel mat!

I picked up a PROlite and never looked back. It really is the perfect compromise, with the same texture and feel of the PRO, but smaller and lighter. It rolls tighter and smaller, or folds up nicely to fit in my luggage.

I didn't expect it, but I often find myself grabbing the PROlite now (rather than the PRO) when practicing around town. This is especially the case when I have a mat in one hand and a toddler in the other!

I got the PRO and the PROlite and I love both - overall the PRO is the best for practice and the PROlite the more handy one but still more preferred than my other mats (hugger mugger & Jade).

I love this mat!!! I got the purple one and online it looks more like a blue color, but when I got it its a lavender color. I have had a cheap mat from target for years and got sick and tired of it slipping everywhere so I tried the Manduka and it doesn't slip. it also heavy enough so that I am cushioned on my knees (since I have bad knees)

I have 2 PROlites and a Black Mat PRO. The PROlite is my favorite. I use it for traveling and for the studio. It's light and firm at the same time. In fact, I bought my second PROlite, because I prefer it to the Black Mat. I use the new PROlite at home instead of the Black Mat. The PROlite is softer and has a kind of quiet feel about it

After years on a cheap mat, I upgraded to the Manduka PROlite. Immediately, I could tell a difference! The quality of the mat you practice on really does make a difference. I LOVE MY MAT!!

loooooooove my Manduka mat. I've had my travel lite pro for over ten years and it's still going. Now I'm buying one for a friend.

  • TianaSeptember 16th, 2009

I've had my Pro Lite Mat since 2005. I practice 6 days a week Ashtanga as taught by Sri K patthabi Jois. Its been with me to Mysore 5 times, Rishikesh once, Madrid twice, London 7 times, Vienna once, Thailand 6 times, Mexico once, Jamaica 3 times, Las Vegas once, manila twice, and a few other places I am sure I'm forgetting! The point is, its still going. And that's a lot of yoga. Love it.

I love my Black Mat® PRO, but I also have two PROlite mats that I use when I travel. It’s great having a PROlite to throw into a bag when I travel. I take it to the beach, the park, and on planes, trains and even boats. When my friends visit, we all do yoga together. I use the BlackMatPRO and they use the PROlites. I really don’t think you can have too many Manduka mats. They are the best.

I just bought the Manduka PROlite in 3 colors. I love the fact that this mat lasts so long and never slips. It is the most comfortable mat I have ever used. I find that most yoga mats they sell in studios are kind of cheap. They really don’t last. I had a Manduka PurpleLite Mat that lasted for almost 4 years, until I left it in a hotel room in Maui. I hope whoever found it is enjoying it. It was still in perfect condition.
