Say the name OPRYLAND USA and everyone from near and far holds special memories of the “FLUME ZOOM,” the “GRIZZLY RIVER RAMPAGE,” but most recall very poignantly all the wonderful musical shows that were featured within the park. If you could sit through “I Hear America Singing” and not get goose bumps, you definitely were one rare individual! We found this spectacular costume in a lot of vintage estate sale items and were also able to procure the Opryland Theme Park Year books in which the costume is pictured. We are going to photograph the costume as it was worn by one of the lovely entertainers. Costumes were often used for different shows, and we noted in one of the yearbooks, that not only was this lovely dress worn by a beautiful lady, it was also donned in an Opryland rendition of “Guys and Dolls” by a rather handsome young man.  

The costume is in excellent vintage condition for its venerable age of over thirty years. As you will be able to determine by our pictures, the fitted skirt in alternating panels of blue and white cascades in ethereally beautiful tiny crystal pleats. Being as circular as it is and being underpinned by a voluminous red crinoline slip, a girl could whirl like a dervish and show miles and miles of spectacular leg while a guy might just look, well… like a guy dressed in drag of course (lol)! As your eyes will tell you, this lovely blue, white and red (red crinoline) two piece dance costume features a fitted bodice and rather Carmen Miranda-ish flounced cap sleeves, and Nehru styled neckline with a stylized bow tie effect in the front. The top has a back zip and the skirt has a velcro closure and placket. With all its gorgeous, sequins, mirrored paillettes and rhinestones, the visual impact if this ensemble was to the MAX and certainly enhanced the excellent vocals and dance abilities of the performers.  

As mentioned before, we will photo this outfit for you and will provide its provenance with pictures from the Opryland USA yearbooks, but this auction is for the costume only and you are buying this costume as is. The pictures that we include show the other color that the costume was made in, but this wonderful blue is just as spectacular and the visual on this authentic Opryland USA Nashville Tennessee costume is just as outstanding as its sister red dress was! There may be an occasional sequin missing, but, overall, the costume is in excellent vintage condition with no rips or frays that we note. The zipper is a metal zip and the dress zips but the zip could probably use a little beeswax to make it zip with greater fluidity. Remember the venerable age of this wonderful costume – over thirty years. That considered, we pronounce this vintage that is as good as it gets!
