This auction is part of Secular Student Alliance week, which is being done by several bloggers who are raising money for the Secular Student Alliance, a non-profit organization for atheist, agnostic and otherwise freethinking students. This is part of Kelley Freeman's, aka Ramen Needles (http://ramenneedles.com), contribution. 

I am participating in Secular Student Alliance week! Lots of fantastic bloggers from over at Freethought Blogs will be hosting crazy amounts of blogging to raise money for the Secular Student Alliance to help them finish up their match with Jeff Hawkins and Janet Strauss (which you can read about here). However, rather than doing crazy amounts of blogging, I am participating in a way that I am actually good at - yes, I will be CROCHETING ridiculous amounts the next ten days! 

I will be posting a new item every day until 6/16 and the proceeds will go to the Secular Student Alliance, which is ABSOLUTELY my favorite secular organization (Camp Quest is also up there, don't worry)!


Today's item is an amigurumi version of Charles Darwin, the famed biologist who studied finches in the Galapagos Islands and chronicled his findings. He is best known for his book, The Origin of Species, which is still controversial even today. With the completion and listing of this item, I am officially half-way through my crochet-a-thon for the SSA, hooray!

Facts about this item:
Charlie is about three and a half inches tall.

He is crocheted from 100% cotton yarn, stuffed with polyester fluff, has safety eyes, and finished with felt details.

His mouth is fabric paint. 

I might make a tiny Origin of Species for giggles if I get around to it.
